Well, I'm Dan, init. I'm 15 and live in Maidstone, Kent. I spit and am always on a clash if I feel the person's good and will give me a challenge and help me to improve. I started calling myself 'Masta Dee' after one night in year 5 when me and my friend were talking about rap names and at the time we were really into old skool hip hop, so we gave each other really old skool rap names. I was 'Phunk Masta Dee'.. now shortened to 'Masta Dee'. I started writing when I was in year 8 and started recording in year 9/10. I really started trying to improve and make good tracks towards the start of year 11 and now I feel that I get better with every track I write and record.
Way before all of that, though, I originally lived in Cumbria with both parents until the age of eight when they seperated and I moved to Kent with just my mum. Since an early age I was heavily into music, firstly pop though, but I was such a big fan of the Spice Girls and I still am to this day. The first concert I went to was a "Smash Hits" gig, I think I was about five or six. The Spice Girls were the highlight of the concert for me though. After a year or so I soon got into S Club 7 and was a huge fan, and when I moved down south I still listened to them but I was hearing a lot more music and buying more and more compilation CD's and hearing more from other artists and my favourite music varied. I loved pop, and I always will, but I began listenind to other genres such as RnB and Soul, as well as a bit of Rock.
Then came hip hop. I heard Eminem and liked what I heard and it wasn't long before I bought "The Slim Shady LP" and listened to it non-stop and then bought "The Marshall Mathers LP" and did the same. Through Eminem, I began hearing more and more artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Royce Da 5'9" and through THEM I got into Eazy-E, N.W.A., 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and Puff Daddy. My passion for hip hop was expanding every day. By the age of about 10 or 11 I eventually heard of rappers such as Pharoahe Monch and got into artists that weren't as mainstream and were more underground. This was when I really began to notice hip hop wasn't just music, it was a culture and an artform.
It went on like this for a few years and then at the age of thirteen I got into Skinnyman, Taskforce and Foreign Beggars. From there my love for UK Hip Hop expanded and I really began to improve as an artist myself. My ideas developed and I began to write and record some deeper tracks, as well as tracks with less-popular concepts. The first mixtape I completed on a serious level was in May of 2006 and it was called "Nothing To Lose, Nothing To Prove". It was a mixtape I was proud of when making, but not so proud of upon finishing. It featured artists such as Charisma, Smerky Kid, Doubl3_A, L Double E and more who don't need to be named and had some amazing production from producers such as Anno Domini and Justice.
After that I kept thinking about how I could improve and when I reached the next level, as I like to call it, I made the "An' It's Nuffink" Promo CD. It was only 7 tracks to help me improve and ger heard a little bit but I think it's good, there are some tracks on there that are some of my favourite I've ever made at this point, such as "Why?", "Don't Get It Twisted", "Stay Smiling" and "Nowhere".
Currently, I'm at the stage where I've finished my second Mix CD, "Content Not Quality.", which you can buy off me for £5, and I'm trying to promote myself as much as possible by having this myspace, a bebo band-page (http://mastadeemusic.bebo.com), a youtube (http://www.youtube.com/MastaDee) and A LOT of helpful friends who are willing to help me get heard and send my music out to everyone they know. Those friends know who they are. Thankyou so much.
Lastly, I'd like to say thank you to anyone in my life who's ever hurt me, made me happy or been there for me. You really do give me the determination to continue with music and improve every day to eventually get where I want to be. Also I'd like to say thank youuuu so much to my girlfriend, Chelsea Courtney. She helped me a lot in the improvement of my music and I'll never forget that. Also LARGE UPP all my boys init and thanks for making the dark days sunny. =]
AN' IT'S NUFFINK.
