My Interests

This is my page, to show the world the workings of my brain? To show any cat who cares to see all about me? The strongest human emotion of all is love. Love of food…love of design, love of art…..love of one type of music although it is a huge and diverse mixture of music! And love of a gal! Warm and full of fire…love! But see here…the folks who know me know I love rockin’ Rhythms and especially Rhythm’n’Blues with all my actual heart so why have it on my page, theirs no point. A person has a character filled with colour and many things! I also love the improvised rhythms of Jazz. New Orleans and Kansas City Jazz which easily becomes R&B? The Latin rhythms of Mambo drive me crazy!I believe in the power of Hep, I know its origins and long history. Hep is a totally human and emotional thing! To be completely enveloped in style and music. I believe with my heart and soul in Hep……..dig?A f-i-n-e Mexican artist by the name of Frida Kahlo was born into this world in July of 1907. Filled with character and such life she achieved monumental popularity with the vibrant colours and life force within her paintings. Pain and suffering followed her life but she still put forward art to impress and adore. I love you Frida…..

I'd like to meet:

Pachuco is a Mexican form of Hep that started back in the 1930’s or 40’s. It began in the El Paso area of Texas and moved westwards following migration of Mexican workers into Los Angeles. The male wore the Zoot Suit and the female, La Pachuco wore a mortified Zoot-Suit too. The female’s hair was worn in a coif hairstyle and could be greased up in a style similar to the guys. The wearer of the Zoot Suit quickly became known as low down and hoodlum like and the Pachuco attitude and way added to this! The Pachuco mixed with gang members too, the Pachuco must be some kinda low down, good for nothin’ the squares must have thought? Their music was wild, Swing, Jazz and R&B, man oh…man them Pachuco had something r-e-a-l gone!Aue’ rico el Mambo!‘Mil Veces Mambo!"Mambo is a word that has mostly lost it’s meaning and it’s a cool word but many folks do not know what it means? The word R&B is the same, kids use it as a term for their own, modern music and do not understand its long history. Rock’n’Roll is the same? And ‘Be-Bop’ became a ‘hip’ word long, long ago and people do not know its cool Jazz history. A cool word is a cool word and cool words get used often and some folks don’t know nothing. Kids say…….. yeah Mambo?Mambo is a Latin music, wild and free and with Latin Rhythms. Free yourself up and dig these rhythms cos you’re a long time dead? Salsa and the Congo and the Samba are also closely related music’s and I do not know the actual differences? But Mambo is a totally spicy syncopation of ‘Latin’ rhythms! There is a tail of this music and it’s history that dates on back to the 18th century. This tail started off in maybe Spain and quickly spreads to the ‘fine’ country of Cuba and in Cuba sex and a high charged feeling were added! Cuba is known for the birth of Mambo and the feeling and groove of this music is right in that country! Cuba and Mambo is a 1940’s thing. It is heavy on ‘Latin’ rhythm’s with a crazy horn section with all the power and ‘Latin’ passion of the gal who might sing, so sweetly, but passionately! Carmen Miranda laid Mambo or was it 'The Samba or Salsa? Names to know and speak of often; Perez Predo, Tito Puente, Nelo Sosa, Xavier Cuga, Abelardo Babroso, Celia Cruz, and the great Desi Arnaz and the great Carmen Miranda.. Salsa filled with passion and power and drive. She had mighty character with her half closed eyes and real cheeky grin. Carmen’s singing is coloured by her strong accent and I feel she could easily lapse in some ‘Havana’ type language that I also wouldn’t understand? Her voice is pure feeling, pure! With slurs and long held on words and notes, she had character big time!**Mambo….high energy…high feelin’….magical and fundamental…..Mambo…**Echa un pie ah viene la conga vereda tropical. Tabu' canta' el marimbulero un poguito de tu amor!malandro...folks lets Samba.....Samba...Samba......The spirit that this gal showed the world is beyond any reason. She showed the whole world true emotion and high energy and vitality with always such a cheeky expression on her character filled face. A face to fall in love with and an equally cheeky singing voice! This gal some times sang in English but she was never understandable? Accent and true character are Carmen Miranda! Born in 1909 of Portuguese and Brazilian extraction. Her name in a cool language should be Karme’j Mi’ ra’de? Carmen was always full to the point of blowing up, with life! Exquisite and amazing this gal was!

Television:

He born by the name of Thomas Wright Waller in 1904 but everyone knows this cat as Fays Waller. A composer, pianist, organist and high class entertainer and Fats was s-o popular! A Jazz pianist with high regard to quality but also a master of the ‘Stride Piano’ and Fats was s-o popular right across the world, as we know it? Why back in the 1920s and 30’s every cat heard of Fats Waller! Why sure you heard o’ Fats Waller and if you ain’t you should! Here tis; Ain’t Misbehavin’, Dinah, Don’t Let It Bother You, Hold Tight, It’s a Sin To Tell A Lie, You’re Not My Kind, The Joint Is Jumpin’, You Feets Too Big and many more. Well now, stand and say this name; Fats Waller….Fats Waller……Fats Waller!Originally a piano form of music that coursed huge waves in the 1930’s! Althow in various forms it was round way before that. Before the 30’s the ‘Barrelhouse’ piano style was a direct ancestor to Boogie-Woogie rhythms. Brilliant exponents of the Boogie-Woogie where cats by the names of Jimmy Yancey, Meade Lux Lewis, Pete Johnson, Albert Ammons and Willie ‘the lion’ Smith. White guys also played this style and Freddie Slack was just dandy! The piano style usually took the form of a 12 bars blues with the left hand repeating over and over in a hypnotising way as the other hand improvised and laid it down. Years went by and many ‘Big Bands’ featured a Boogie-Woogie part to each show. Other instruments quickly played the Boogie-Woogie and music changed but this great form of music still held its ground! The early 50’s stood proud and a music by some known as ‘Hillbilly Boogie’ came to be and the Boogie-Woogie was at it’s very core! Rhythm’n’Blues also owes a great debt to the Boogie and the Woogie and untold songs kicked off with a strong Boogie-Woogie piano intro and it carried on all through the song! Grand folks like Amos Milburn still laid down the Boogie-Woogie with mellow or ferocious style. By the mid 50’s Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis were pounding and sweatin’ in a Boogie-Woogie wayThe Duke of Ellington…............all board that ‘A’ Train……......a-l-l a-board!

Books:

We the Cats Will Hep Yer…….Mop….Mop…The 1930’s and 40’s were the era of Swing but one orchestra shone bright as hell? Serious Jazz fans mocked and made fun of this cat who performed with humour and true madness ? His music was Swing but his orchestra would holler back when this cat sang certain words? Was Jive music Jackson! And he sang about strange things like Reefers and Zoot-Suits and he would make light of life? Was Jive music Jackson! Why I’m talking bout brother Cab Calloway course! He born way back in 1907 but by 1930 with his first band called The Missourians Cab had started to ‘Kicking The Gong Around’ for sure! And in 1931 Cab along with his orchestra recorded the haunting ‘Minnie The Moocher’ which haunts and resounds and grabs your very soul. Why it Jive music Jackson!Lionel Hampton with his raucous and loud as hell orchestra help to lay down the roots of the Rhythm’n’Blues. Sax’s would fight against one another and The Joint Was really Rockin’! As Lionel grinned, the biggest grin in the world and calmly played them vibes.Below; Count Basie...First Jazz, a fully feeling and emotional form of music? Then at some point in the late 1920’s Jazz began to move along and Swing? This movement in music became known indeed as Swing! Band leaders of the time included Fletcher Henderson and the Duke of Ellington and others. Improvised music, to play your own thing, with your emotion and your character was an all important ingredient added to music! All cool music contains this improvised ingredient. To be able to solo, improvisation. From straight Jazz to music that moves along, Swings is a heck of a massive jump! Music was never the same again.....Swing = Movement in music.

Heroes:

Improvised music changed the whole face of music. To be able to solo which is to improvise which is to be in contact with emotions and feelings. Improvised music was easily around before Jazz but cats like Louis Armstrong made everyone look, take notice and think? Louis played trumpet from the heart and with full connection with his emotions and soul. Louis spoke ‘Jive-Talk’ and wore his collar up and was…..Hep!Louis Armstrong was born in the Storyville area of New Orleans which was an area frequented by hard working prostitutes. One Louis Armstrong recording is s-o good it makes me cry and is Hey Lawdy Mama…Duke Ellington with Caravan.
