About Me

DO YOU PLAY BASKETBALL?
Yep...I get asked this all the time. So many people ask me, "Are you a professional basketball player?". . . I am joking. I'm only 4'10" tall. And NO - I'm not a model either. However, a few seem to want to know more about me and what I do. So, here is a summary of who “Missy" woman/child is. Here we go:

I was discovered in a buddhist monastery in rural South Korea near the 38th parallel by christian missionaries. At the age of 3, I studied music and martial arts. By 6 years old, I was flown to the USA and adopted by a midwest farming family. I've planted corn, fed chickens, and milked a cow. I consider myself a bit of a cowgirl.
When I arrived to America, I spoke Korean fluently and I didn't speak any English, but now, I can't speak any Korean. Growing up in the Midwest, I was not in communication with other Korean-speaking people. I was raised by my adopted american grandparents and not by my biological mom. I have never met my biological father (although my current USA birth certificate states that my adopted dad is my biological father). According to my mom, my bio-dad is Hawaiian.
I learned the English language very quickly in order to survive.
And now, I have edited books for few book publishing companies.

I started piano at the age of 3 in Korea. My background is classical, but after relinquishing my full scholarship and dropping out of music college after one semester, I immediately got into jazz, blues, and funk.
I formed my 1st band, traveling the US playing music full-time (my band played lots of originals). Within months, I started performing at better venues, showcases, and festivals; was featured on the news & TV; hosted as a VJ for a music program; launched a radio program for original music.
. . . And had features in newspapers, magazines, books, and music ads. I even created my own music publishing company. It was rather surreal because music was never really something that I had committed to do. It rather chose me, but I embraced it because I could . . . and it was giving me money to live and people were watching and listening and giving me more money to continue.
Missy's Best Asset (according to some)

I love shoes . . . big shoes. I was featured on SteveMadden.com (shoe creator for the likes of tori amos, josie & the pussycat movie, etc.) when he was featuring rockers at the time. I hope to have a shoe designed by him.

Even while playing music full-time, I had little pop-culture knowlege. I was too busy making music and writing music to have any time to listen to music. While setting up my gear in a club, I heard "Hells Bells" and I discovered heavy metal and loved its classical riffing. Every time I heard a song I liked, I would ask my new guitarist, Darren, "WHO'S THAT?" and he'd say something like, "Oh, that's Aerosmith".
I wanted to do more than drive this success-wheel in the Midwest. I wanted to express myself more aggressively. Rock ‘n Roll . . . and the raw energy of a live rock band was going to be my new vehicle . . . and I wanted to do it somewhere else -- NY, CA, London, etc. Whereever the road would take me.
I found myself in LA after turning down mgmt/publishing deals in NY. So, I moved out to Hollywood with everything in my car. And Darren followed suit in his truck. At our very 1st performance in CA, we got picked up by our manager and mentor, Michael, and we started my second band - FreaknMissy.

Day by day, I am learning about current pop-culture. However, I have often fallen in love with a band's sound only to discover that they are no longer a band.
I've come a long ways baby but most people would say that I am going backwards. As I get older, I am progressing towards more "juvenile" music. I still love classical and complicated music, but screw the pretense . . . I am a rocker and I'll rock 'til I shit blood'.
It's taking what seems like forever to find the right people that have the same drive, ambition, vision, skillset, attitude, and philosophy like Darren and I. But hey, we are still moving forward and I've written a lot of great songs along the way. There are no losses here. We're all just learning and growing.
And to this day I am currently working on making all my goals/dreams come true one by one. I hope to achieve these things before the world ends as we know it.
1) Learn to fly - get a sport's pilots license!
2) Learn to shoot well. Get a great handgun and shotgun.
3) Become a better martial artist.
4) Have a great rock band that makes quality music. Then, create a line of products from vids to music that people can have.
5) Work on channeling my anxiousness about the world into "working out" as much as possible. I am serious when I say that I am truly waiting and looking forward (with strength and positivity) for the "world to end as we know it". I am here not only SURVIVE it, but to SURVIVE IT WELL.

All of this living is a lot of hard work. But in the end I know that anything is possible. It's not always going to be easy, but at this moment, I love what I do, I love who I am, I love who I am becoming, I love the people I am with, and I love this crazy path that we are all heading towards. I can't wait. I will always live young.

MY FRIENDS!
Since becoming involved in music, I have since made friends and have worked, recorded or performed with musicians from pop-stars like Gwen Stefani and Andre 3000 to the metal-gods like Iced Earth, bluesmen like BB King -- to recording with members from John Mellencamp to Sly & the Family Stone. Sure I've had dinners and coffee with lots of people that other people see as celebrities or rockstars, but they are just people and they need friends too.
But my real friends . . . they are always close to my heart whether near or far.

DARREN STROUD

This is my best friend and my music partner for real. I am also a fan of his work. We're currently working on an instrumental CD along with Adam Farley.
SAM PETTY

This is my best friend. She's fricken brilliant-intelligent. She gets me and accepts me.
JIM SNIDER

This is my movie producer buddy. He's got a huge heart and he's so supportive of me. He's an awesome artist.
Jim Snider has turned Missy into a piece of art!

Many "friends" stand out to me.
