Acoustic Empowerment

About Me

Erich Mace has always identified himself as a musician and songwriter. From an early age, the Reading, PA native was exposed to the sounds of 60’s and 70’s rock and roll through his father, an amateur musician. In fact, Erich’s first stage appearance had already occurred by the age of 3, as he and other children would dance and place toy instruments with his father’s band. Erich recalls writing tunes and jingles for even the most mundane aspects of life, “Brushing my teeth, washing my face…yeah I could have made an album promoting personal hygiene.” These days Erich is finally devoting himself to the art he has always loved. After graduating from Penn State University with an engineering degree followed by several short stints in graduate school, he has devoted himself to the challenge of a musical career. He began performing while working a year of flood relief in Pittsburgh in 2005-06. His confidence grew as he explored the Pittsburgh music scene and eventually Erich decided to pursue music full time in Philadelphia beginning in December 2006.Having already played highly esteemed Philadelphia venues including Grape Street Philadelphia, Milkboy Coffee, Steel City Coffeehouse and World Café Live, Erich has quickly made an impact in the Delaware Valley. With the March 2007 release of his EP “Arise”, Erich is ready to take his career to the next level. In fact, late June 2007saw Erich gaining momentum as he was awarded “People’s Choice” at the Emergenza 2007 Philadelphia Acoustic Hero Contest.Erich’s music can be described as acoustic/folk with melodic vocal layers and finger style guitar having an earthy, raw feel flavored with positive and empowering lyrics. He has been compared to Leo Kottke, Jack Johnson, Guster and Keller Williams. Erich has performed at:

City Espresso, Reading, PA; Hardbean Underground, Reading, PA; Kiva Han, Pittsburgh, PA; Shadow Lounge, Pittsburgh, PA; Mojoe Coffeehouse, Pittsburgh, PA; Aldo Coffee Co., Pittsburgh, PA; Café Au Vineyard, Pittsburgh, PA; Rex Theatre, Pittsburgh, PA; Grape Street Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA; East End Cafe, Newark, DE; Appalachian Brewing Company, Harrisburg, PA, Milkboy Coffee, Ardmore, PA World Cafe Live, Philadelphia, PA Steel City Coffeehouse, Phoenixville, PA Chaplin's The Music Cafe, Spring City, PA

Influences: I've been fortunate to play with some wonderful people. In particular Dean Blackstock, Ryan Freese and JOY Ike have helped me grow tremendously. Then then there was the influence of my Dad, bringing me up around the music I now love. As for what can be heard in my CD player as of late: The Beatles, Todd Hannigan, Mat Kearney, Jack Johnson, Jeff Buckley, Gomez, Genesis, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs, Air, Soundgarden, Paul Simon..
Sounds Like: Hope filled viscerality....Press and Reviews:"I think the best word to describe Erich Mace's music is "upbeat"--and I mean that both tempo and lyrically. When I listen to his CD "Arise", I am struck by the positive and encouraging tone of his lyrics. Additionally, Erich's songs are catchy and memorable. He's a gifted singer, songwriter and musician. And what I've heard of Erich's new songs suggests that he has continued to grow as an artist. I look forward to hearing and seeing him on the local music scene (and beyond) for years to come." ~93.7 WSTW Hometown Heroes host Mark Rogers"In just a couple of songs you will notice that Erich Mace is not just another singer/songwriter. Besides his all-American good looks, Erich's songs take on a life of their own- - and none of them sound the same. His melodys at once catchy and positive. His delivery is refined, indicating his dedication to his craft and years of practice. His voice both engaging and soothing and he demonstrates a wide vocal range. Erich surrounds himself with some of the finest musicians in the Philadelphia area and is continually developing. Despite the short time he has been a full-time musician, Erich has developed a steady and enthusiastic fan base. " ~Jane Tucker, Manager of Steel City Coffeehouse, Phoenixville, PA"Milo Adventist Academy had the privilege of the musical and ministerial talents of Erich Mace this past March [2008]. It was a refreshing and up-lifiting experience. Erich's ability to be vulnerable is refreshing and his desire to be real with students was awe-inspiring. We thought that he connected well and the content of his lyrics and the way they were woven by his personal experiences were just the right things for our students to hear. The best thing about Erich was the care he gave and extended after and before his performances. I was deeply moved by the time and attention he took to spend time with our students - he was really intentional with this part of his ministry and it made a huge impact." ~Pastor Jeff Deming, Pastor / Chaplain Milo Adventist Academy, Milo, OR"Now, we just watched ‘American Idol’ and were expecting….well, you know. But all of us were pleasantly surprised. Nice ballads to soft harmonic style voice. Heartfelt lyrics that seemed to express stories of his life. I dug it. " ~Chris, owner of The Nail, Ardmore, PAErich in "The Phoenix"!"...song features good musical and melodic parts and a memorable hook. The strong and sincere vocal delivery suits the material well. The musicianship is solid, tight and fitting and the production sounds good overall." ~TAXI on "One Day Won"
