About Me
Nathan hosts VAUXHALLVILLE - a spit 'n' sawdust spectacular every Thursday at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
'There's nowhere else like VauxhallVille. Fast, friendly and hedonistically slapstick, it's a gem of a cabaret show that sticks two fingers up at pretentious performance and wallows happily in no-frills fizzy pop. Numerous highlights include Nathaniel's sublime performances. Watch the boy, watch the troupe – VauxhallVille's really going places…' Time Out
He's also currently collaborating with Polly Wiseman on ATOMIC - a lo-fi lipsync spectacular with Blondie's greatest hits (and puppets), writing/directing A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S PANTOMIME - his second panto for the RVT and performing with The Tiger Lillies in 7 DEADLY SINS.
‘gobsmackingly filthy’ - The Telegraph
‘a high camp attack on high art’ – The Guardian
‘talented, endearing & very alternative’ – The Sunday Times
The songs were written for the show RATHER BE DEAD THAN GAY - an ironic look at gay culture through my sexual and romantic disasters, which also features pyrothechnics, puppetry, striptease and cookery and which opened the Sound Theatre in 2005 and then toured nationally.
Nathan also created PUPPETRY OF THE POPS - a trio of tributes to Morrissey, Bowie and Bush. WOW! is a recreation with puppets of Kate Bush's last live appearance in 1979, HEAVEN KNOWS I'M MISERABLE NOW is a musical inspired by the songs of The Smiths for Casio-keyboard and puppets, and ROCK 'N' ROLL SUICIDE is the puppetry-promo Bowie never made.
These shows have been performed at venues, clubs, festivals including The New Players Theatre, Komedia, Kashpoint, 291 Gallery, Hoxton Hall, Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, Bestival, Bistrotheque, the Drill Hall, Act Art, Unity Theatre, The Tron & The Arches, Junction, Turnmills, Tartan Heart, Latitude, Glastonbury, Blackheath Halls and the Aldeburgh festival.
Nathan has also hosted PUPPET GRINDER at The Little Angel Theatre and CABARET CAROUSEL at Madame JoJos. He was part of Duckie's Olivier award-winning C'EST BARBICAN, their first GAY SHAME, their Kate Bush nite at the ICA and Morrissey nite at the Coronet. He's collaborated on one-off shows with David Hoyle and Taylor Mac.
ROCK 'N' ROLL SUICIDE won the lo-budget film award at the 2005 Halloween Film Festival, has screened at Curzon Soho, 93 Feet East, Exploding Cinema, and the 2006 London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival at the NFT. Previous film THE SIGNIFICANT DEATH OF QUENTIN CRISP was broadcast on Channel 4 and toured internationally with the British Council. BUYING TIME, a short drama, screened in the Raindance and Portobello Film Festivals. Short script BUG CHASING was short-listed for Film London's Pulse 2004 scheme.
In 2003 Nathan was awarded an ACE bursary to write SUBMISSION, a play researched with a development grant from The Bush. Previous plays include BABY, in the Royal Court Young Writer's Festival, and GUERILLA GARDENING, which started at BAC Scratch and went on to the Pleasance Edinburgh. He won the Medium Rare New Performer Challenge 2005 and has been featured in The Face & Attitude.
