PROFESSOR ANGEL DUST Y DIEGO DELIPPO, from 11:00 A 3:00 A.M. free entrance Last year he was in charge of the music direction of the block buster spanish film "Yo soy La Juani" by veteran director Bigas Luna. Currently working in new material, the Professor is ready to keep on rumbling.
But theres a whole story behind, with many geographical and stylistic turns. The Professor was born in Mexico D.F. the same year Kennedy was killed. With only 17 years he parted to Canada to study experimental arts (yes, theres a degree with this name in that country). There he formed part of Jesus and the Mutants, a cult band that made a kind of tribal electro-clash with funk grooves.
There was also a duo-with-girl called Bambi (really!), and they recorded a cover of Rock On, that litany of the actor David Essex between Eurythmics and Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was a mini hit. The jump to Europe was inevitable: In North America there was the time of people like Bryan Adams and there was no space for what I wanted to do. Many travels followed, including a stop in Stockholm, where he formed ON, a project launched by the Swedish Warner Music, and that even got to contract Malcolm McLaren as executive producer. We had a one million dollars budget, which now seems like science fiction to me.
Three years later, the first ON album was published. It was a kind of electronic folk; I think it was ahead of that time, even Beck hadnt started yet. Then we were the supporting band in a Neil Young tour, which was a great experience. For the next album, we recorded some demos influenced by The Velvet Underground and trip hop. ON wasnt receiving much attention by then, but the Professor was established in Barcelona and had discovered other possibilities.
A GÃœERO IN BARCELONA
The character of Professor Angel Dust was born in Barcelona, when he decided to DJ again, which he began doing in Canada. The name expressed an interesting duality: angel dust is an especially dangerous drug, but its also said that angels carry a kind of cosmic dust in their wings. The Professor came after the Jamaican sound systems, where they liked to use ostentatious names.
In Barcelona, an extraordinary Club scene was in the making. This was an environment that perfectly suited the Professor. It was an environment open to warm rhythms, from mambo to ragga, and you could meet musicians from all over the world, so it was easy to add instruments an MCs to the music I played. Very soon, the Professor began realising his ideas: two maxis for the label Cosmos, a DJ Session for So Dens and many remixes. His first studio album was Guachapeando (Virgin), which included a hit like his cover of Oye Como Va, with the voice of Mucho Muchacho, one of the most famous Spanish rappers.
Among his many travels to DJ around the world, he also had time to create the concept of Bongo Lounge alongside his brother Diego, aka De Lippo. They both form The Dope Brothers and under this name, they released a luxurious double CD with the label Dro East West. In the meantime, he worked in his Dusty Sound studios and, after three years, he gave the final touch to PACHUCO WATUSI, which is also the first album of the brand new label Actúa Recordings.

Sounds Like: LOVE IS THE LAW VIDEO HELLO AMIGOS With 19 tunes and almost 70 minutes of music, PACHUCO WATUSI doesnt easily fit in any specific style. Here you can find fierce mambos, seductive night landscapes, patchanka rhythms from the Caribbean, even a famous folklore song called La Bruja (The Witch), a popular and surrealistic piece sung by the Professor itself (my father used to sing it and I even dared to add some verses to it). PACHUCO WATUSI is simply sensual urban music from the beginnings of the third Millennium. Just dreamy, warm, stimulant music.
