WELCOME TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA NIGERIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION CHAPTER OF EDMOND, OKLAHOMANigeria, the country with the largest population in Africa, is slightly more than twice the size of California. Nigeria gained its Independence from the Great Britain on October 1st, 1960. Nigeria is located in West Africa, bordering the Gulf of Guinea between Benin and Cameroon. In recent years, Nigeria is has grown economically. Nigeria is rich in natural resources, such as crude oil, petroleum, tin and iron ore, which it is able to export. The offical language of Nigeria is English, although there are over 500 different languages spanning Nigeria's more than 250 separate ethnic groups. Nigeria believes in equal rights for the people, unity, peace, and progress, which is symbolized by its coat of arms.The University of Central Oklahoma's Nigerian Student Association would like to welcome anyone wishing to learn more about Nigeria's proud heritage to join us.
