A couple of people jammed and then some others jammed. The end. Just to put it all into perspective in the history of the world, though, they first played a house party in like, I don’t know... lets say May 2005.
Originally dubbed "Connecticut Alley" (mainly because we practiced in a garage house in an alley on Connecticut street) after a desperate attempt to come up with a name through an overly complicated system of voting with a technique that allotted a certain point system to each band member’s top three choices for a band name which obviously backfired and left us with a name nobody liked but because of the system, everyone picked it for their second or third choice and so it got enough points to outscore others because nobody picked the same first choice. The band shortened the name just hours before their first show to "The Connecticuts" which some fans still prefer to the ultimate shortened, mutated version we all now know and love.... The Kinetiks. Go Kinetiks!
Press:
"It’s hard to imagine a stand-still crowd at a Kinetiks show. Drummer Jason Kniep and bassist Phil Gratz bash out kinky grooves with body-seizing disco beats, keyboardist and singer Rani Waugh does Ric Ocasek proud with savory New Wave keyboards, and Goertz-Giffen sprightly bobs back and forth while picking out red-hot pentatonic licks."
-Richard Gintowt, The Pitch weekly newspaper
"For the past few years the Kinetiks have been steadily winning fans in Lawrence and KC for their high-energy, girl-fronted take on punk, rock, and dance music. The band’s shows are as much about getting the audience moving as they are playing music. The band itself is hardly afraid to break a sweat—there is no shortage of clapping, jumping, or dancing on stage. The Kinetiks are about to release “Music History,†their second EP and their first foray into studio recording. The EP won’t disappoint fans of the band’s live show—it’s packed with sharp beats, fun lyrics, and harmonies reminiscent of bands like Sleater-Kinney." -April Fleming, Lawrence.Com
"Maybe I drank too much coffee this morning, but "Music History" had me bouncing off the walls." -Wade Kelly, the Lawrencian. The new Kinetiks E.P. Music History for sale now for only $5...
