So, one day in 1969 this woman and man had a kid. She was really tiny, like, just over 5 lbs. She looked ok, except her head was really big (some say it still is, but for different reasons), almost bigger than her shoulders. But, this was the 60's and no one really took notice. As she got older, she began having health problems, something like what addicts experience when going through withdrawl; vomiting, weight loss, and pain. The woman was a nurse so she knew something wasn't right, but every doctor she took the kid to misdiagnosed her with the wrong things.
Around 18 months old, the kid was walking into walls (some say she still does, but for different reasons) and not seeing things right, and it was discovered she was legally blind. As if that wasn't enough, she started having seizures. Doctors put the girl on meds, but that only made the problems worse. Still, the woman took her child to specialist after specialist with no real results.
Despite being sick so much, the kid managed to make it to age 5, but then she got really sick with a dangerous illness called Cerebral Meningitis. She was so sick she had to be put on life support and given all sorts of medication that almost killed her!! Because the woman was a nurse, she knew how dangerous the situation was and caused all sorts of fuss wanting something to be done. Eventually, a doctor with a real degree came along and discovered she had a condition called HYDROCEPHALUS
Even though this condition sounded frightening, especially knowing there was no cure for it, the doctors explained there was a fairly new procedure to relieve the pressure in the kid's head called a cerebral peretoneal shunt . Well, the woman thought this to be just as scarey as the diagnosis, but she knew without it, her kid was going to die anyway.
33 years, 45 surgeries, numerous medical deaths and scares and countless hospitalizations later, the woman is no longer with us, BUT I AM!! :)
Oh, bet you thought that was all! Nope! Here are the other things I deal with on a daily basis...
RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy)
Psoriasis
Endometriosis
Arthritis
Fibromyalgia
RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome)
Seizures (Controlled by medication for 7 yrs!)
It's believed that most of this is created by the many yrs of illness, surgeries and the unknown regarding Hydrocephalus and shunts. I do use a wheelchair, although not regularly, and regained my driver's license 3 yrs ago after I personally gave it up for 5 yrs.
I try not to let anything get in my way. I've played sports, had kids, gone to college, held jobs and ran businesses, and pretty much did all that others, mostly doctors told me I couldn't. As I get older I'm getting weaker and more things are happening to me, but that's ok, it only makes me stronger...most of the time.
Oh, I forgot about being ADHD, a Taurus and Irish. Still wanna meet me? LOL!
