Joaquin is an R&B/Urban vocalist and songwriter with international talent and appeal. Known for his smooth yet soulful vibe, the twenty-something musician has put pen to paper for major label artists and producers such as, Da Brat (So So Def), Projectz (CMH Records), Brian Alexander Morgan and Teddy Riley. With introspective and reflective lyrics, Joaquin's songs are mini screenplays, snapshots of relationships and life experiences. Redefining the singer/songwriter label, misguidedly attached to almost every R&B solo artist, Joaquin seems to set out on his own path, creating an entirely new genre of music.
Joaquin's big break came in November of 2000 when local radio station Z90 (San Diego, California) began spinning his song "Hands of Time". The song quickly generated call-in requests and a huge listener response. "Hands of Time" shot straight to the number one position and remained there for over four weeks. In the wake of the tragic Santana High School shooting, students from the school requested the song in dedication to those who had lost their lives. In turn, Joaquin recorded an alternate version of "Hands of Time" for the students. The new version of "Hands of Time" moved straight to number one by the end of the week. Cable news television station CNN went on to use "Hands of Time" as the background music for all stories related to the High School incident. Soon after, Joaquin released his second single "Day Late". The song was quickly added to Z90 regular rotation. "Day Late" moved to the number one position by it's third day of airplay. It broke the record as the quickest single in the station's history to chart at this position.
Between Fall 2001 and the Summer of 2002 Joaquin continued to release various singles to local radio stations. With help from several producers and friends the twelve track album Hands of Time was compiled and released also during this period. Futhermore, Joaquin became involved in retail promotions, performed at in-store appearances, and toured to places as far as Salt Lake City, Utah to Kansas City, Missouri.
Notwithstanding, Joaquin's sophomore project Child Support has taken two years to complete. He has not forgotten that truly great music is crafted through a subtle fusion of lyrical expression and rhythmic accomplice. Containing the brand new tracks "She's Gone", "Sometimes I Wonder" and "Family", this is an album that will send the gifted musician straight to the top.
