"One way of articulating the central idea of the counterculture is simply to say that it collapsed the distinction between deviance and dissent (or more accurately, that it began treating all deviance as dissent... The freedom to resist tyranny, to fight against unjust domination, is not equivalent to the freedom to do whatever you want, to have your own interests prevail. Yet the counterculture assiduously eroded this distinction."--Heath & Potter, "The Rebel Sell"

My Interests

novelty oversized foam cowboy hats. audible and visual art in all their wacky forms. breaking all those boring rules about what women are supposed to do/act like/be interested in. ruining people's eardrums with my 2 evil rock bands. guitars, basses, drums, synths, computers in a music-making capacity. the ancient art of tattooing as a vehicle for artistic self expression. tea of all kinds. driving at high speeds through puddles. the fine art of paleolithic baking. süperflüoüs ümlaüts. video games. drawing, painting, mixed media. zombies. pixels. deviant behaviour: learning about it, studying it, engaging in it. the neverending search for the world's ugliest pair of 1950s eyeglasses. dancing recklessly and crazy adventures. squid. RPGs: console, computer, and old fashioned dice and paper. cooking (fresh and from scratch. usually curries). computers 'n' technology: fixing them, breaking them, buying them, building them. getting drunk and talking in a jamaican accent. alternative approaches to health and nutrition. learning cool facts about nature, science and history. lego. polar bears. trashy lingerie. rare, unique, and unusual guitars, stomp boxes, and amps. the rest of the world: learning about it, visiting it, eating its delicious food, and buying its tacky souvenirs. pajama pants. getting drunk and talking in a puerto rican accent. things that end in "ology" (except astrology, that shit's for chumps.)stealing public property. politics. butchering a variety of languages. swords, spells, robots and rayguns. making out. secular humanism. sleep. handmade anything. forests. aurora borealis. collecting shit (unconventional action figures, stuff with Jesus on it, weird Japanese toys, artwork, comics, etc). and above all, striving to leave this shithole in a slightly better state than i found it.

I'd like to meet:

a proficient juggler.

Music:

all i've been listening to lately is the outkast cd tristan left in my car and the Nas cd josh left in my car. thanks boys.

Movies:

i like intelligent humour, time travelling rabbits, cyborgs, explosions, subversive shit, epic battles, and any movie starring billy idol as himself. NO CHICK FLICKS PLEASE.

Television:

It irritates me when people pretend to be all hip and socially conscious by hating on TV when in fact they're flaming hypocrites who would trip over their grandma's corpse in their hurry to catch the new episode of Flavour of Love.

Books:

first off i'm addicted to science magazines, particularly omni and focus, which is the BBC science mag. also, i love fiction, especially fantasy/sci-fi and speculative. authors: david gemmell, william shakespeare, frank herbert, george orwell, tanya huff, laurell hamilton, dave duncan, homer, robert asprin, j.v. jones. lastly i still enjoy my social science textbooks.
