Second String was born as a throw together gig by bassist Billy Thornton. Initially it was a trio with Billy bass, keyboardist Eric Brigmond (3, Donavon Frankenreiter) and drummer Craig Barnette (3, Donavon Frankenreiter, Mofro). Guitarist extraordinaire Pete Winders recently joined as the "official fourth member".
Second String performs "their take" of mainly instrumental funk and jazz tunes from the likes of The Meters, Hoagie Carmichael, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Donny Hathaway, Medeski Martin & Wood, Jimmy Smith, The Band and many others.
