About Me

I'm a DJ and I'm serious about my music. I try my best to change the content of my record boxes each time I play out and make sure my sets aren't mono orientated. I play different styles and mix up classic songs alongside the latest tracks.
I'm very much into the quality of sound. I decided to start playing with a digital mixing system in 2006 and am a user of MIX VIBES combined with an RME sound card. I still buy a lot of vinyl but I burn it straight up onto hard disk. I'm not keen on the other digital mixing systems as you cannot choose your own sound card and therefore influence the quality of sound during your sets, and for the time being the quality of the sound cards provided by other mixing solutions is extremely mediocre. I'm definitely not keen on playing mp3s and anything lower than 320 kbps is simply not up to standard for club play. I'm still looking for the best combination of equipment that will emulate the sacred sound of vinyl. I believe it's not far off. If you have any views to share on this subject then definitely get in touch !
My nights in Paris:
GUYS&DOLLS
A regular night in Paris that I set up with mo for his camp friends. We play a lot of nice things there but mostly soul orientated music and a lot of underground stuff that never really gets heard in mainstream or gay clubs : deephouse, disco, sweaty funk, acid, boogie, future soul and spacey techno.
THE PARTY (ex CLUB DISCO)
A hot disco night at Le Bus Palladium in Paris's red light district. Some of Paris's best promoters work on this night so there's a great crowd. I play across the board of discophonics : soul, boogie, electrofunk and of course disco in its many forms. Regular guests include Dimitri from Paris, Romain BNO, AL Kent, James Hillard (Horse Meat Disco), Greg Wilson, Patrick Vidal, Aïcha (DiscoQueer), Arno E Matthieu (Clima)
BALLROOM
An amazing night that only happened once last year with Laurent Garnier, Dj Deep and myself. A proper old school house music rave in Paris, all the different party heads came down to that night and the place rocked from 10pm 'till 8 am. There'll be another one this year on 30th June at Elysée Montmartre with Dj Deep, Gregory, Jef K, Jerome Pacman, Patrick Vidal and myself.
OTRAOTRA
This night is over unfortunately, a few amazing memories live on though. Check out the photos in the pics section. This was a REAL crowd : they danced all night long and they knew their stuff. The venue was La Boule Noire with definitely the best light show i've ever seen in a club. Take a look at the video below.
Bio:
NICKv is a product of Mancunia, packaged in the suburbs of Paris and currently one of the hottest djs on the Paris scene.
His reputation has grown with the success of the clubs he helped to establish in 2003 when Nick’s across the genre flavoured dj sets led him to hold down major residencies : Guys & Dolls, OtraOtra, ClubDisco and Ballroom some of Paris’s best underground nights. Nick spins monthly to the more discerning ears of open minded and mixed people - gay, straight or both – and has been joined by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Dimitri from Paris, Needs, The Unabombers, At Jazz, Ivan Smagghe, i:cube, Dj Deep, Âme, Greg Wilson, Gilb’r, Erik Rug, Grand Wizard Theodore, Maurice Fulton, Metro Area, Chris Goss (Hospital), ?uestLove and even Roy Ayers !
His Mancunian origins combined to a Paris based b-boy and funk background has provided Nick with a rare blend of music tastes, on which he draws to build his unique sets. His DJ sets rip up any dancefloor and combine music from all genres and periods of music : digging deep into the old school from hiphop to disco and electro funk, through to the sounds of the future drum & bass, deep house, broken beats, techno soul and far beyond. Versatilty and open mindedness being the key, he can also span out towards rock and soul. His dynamic yet smooth mixing skills honed over the years have established Nick as one of the hottest djs in the French capital.

These are pictures taken at nights I have played at ...
often taken between playing records ...
most were done at otra otra ...
or guys&dolls.
Many have been sent to me by friends.
A good light show ...
is as important ...
as a good sound system ...
the best clubs have both.
Choosing the best songs and tracks at the right time ...
gets the energy going on the floor.
I love watching ...
people letting themselves go in the dark.

Many things can happen in one night ...
it's always good to see it happen from the start ...
and go through to the end.
Many different emotions ...
different styles ...
a lot of wild dancing ...
and positive energy to take home.

Quite a night at Boule Noire yesterday. A bit weird at the beginning though. People sort of standing off each other despite some great records being played by erik. This girl got on stage and stomped ...
