About Me

Sometimes music listens to you. This is true for artist and audience with the music of this singer/songwriter. He writes as a means of processing and sorting through thoughts and emotions; the music listens to him. It is both Muse and confidante. But this confidante keeps no secrets. She converses with you too, the listener. And once you listen, something within you speaks back. The music listens to you.
Noah Gundersen started playing guitar and writing music when he was only 12, recording his first album on his father's old analog Tascam Studio 8 when he was 13. He released his sophomore album, 'Apnea,' in 2005 and began to play live shows in local cafes and friends' houses. Noah's live shows are really where the listener can experience both the sound and the passion that goes into the music.
Combining deeply personal lyrics, acoustic folk-rock guitar work, and a passionate voice, Noah creates emotive songs for his listeners. He expresses personal thoughts in hope that "someone will hear a song and be touched somewhere in their heart that often goes by unnoticed."
With a vocal approach that could be described as a paradox of controlled erraticism, Noah's singing shifts from soft, whisper-like reveries to the urgent outcries against injustices, personal and social. His guitar work ranges from tension-laden picking to distressed guitar raking and the music is accompanied by weeping violins which seem to be played on the very heartstrings of listeners. The suspenseful restlessness of the verses is released in the free spirited abandonment of the choruses; the vocals climaxing in high pitched, pleading melodies - at times strained, sometimes crystalline - which are perfected by the graceful vocal harmonies of violinist and backing vocalist Abby Gundersen.
On the 'Brand New World' EP, released in the summer of 2008, Noah is an honest lyricist reflecting like a psalmist struggling with the inconsistency of one's deepest convictions "I believe God is a bigger man than me but sometimes I think that I can fight him" or a romantic poet commenting on the ephemerality of emotions and the unpredictability of love, "I believe love is giving, going, gone, come back to kiss me on the forehead" (Moss on a Rolling Stone). He is a young artist in a busy world, "life is a fast car, passing me by" (The First Song). He is discontented and hopeful, "all that I want lately is a change" (The Current State of Things). He is a perceptive writer and a passionate voice.
