Mercenary: Soldier of Fortune

About Me

***IMPORTANT NOTE: I only accept personalized Myspace comments from bands or people that I have actually worked with.***Every day I wake up feeling grateful to have a job that I love because I never really feel like I have to go to "work". Some say being a live sound-man is a thankless job, but all you need to do is look through my comments section below and you will see that bands and musicians are constantly thanking me for the results I deliver and my positive attitude. Being friendly, helpful, and kind while maintaining a professional attitude and delivering the highest possible level of sound quality is what separates me from most of my notoriously bitter and grumpy peers.I have been enjoying my work with sound reinforcement systems and recording equipment in one capacity or another since 1991. In 1995 I began professionally touring with various bands signed to the Lookout Records label. In 2005 I began mixing sound for various bands and venues around the San Francisco bay area. In less than one year I was promoted to being the head sound-person at one of the premier live music venues in San Francisco, The Bottom of the Hill. I sometimes mix at The Elbo Room along with working other freelance audio related jobs such as on-location sound recording for film/TV/video.I have toured with The Riverdales , Mr. T Experience , The Groovie Ghoulies , The Queers , The Muffs , Teen Idols, The Misfits , The Bellrays , Stars of Track and Field , The Thermals , Mystery Jets, and Rogue Wave . My complete resume can be found in my Blog area above.I own a large collection of recording and live sound equipment (microphones, mixers, compressors, gates, reverbs, racks and road cases, mic stands, drum claws, cables, etc). Under the right circumstances I'm willing to take my own gear on the road so as to ensure a certain level of quality control and predictability.I enjoy driving. I don't smoke or use any recreational narcotics, and I rarely ever drink anything containing alcohol. I'm always sober and in good shape to drive. I take my health seriously and I have a solid grasp on the fundamentals of exercise and nutrition. I spent 6 years working off and on in health food and vitamin stores, and I've also worked as a personal fitness trainer. Whenever my schedule permits I continue to work out while I'm on the road.I love my job and take it very seriously. I go on the road to work in new environments and expand my skills, not to "party" with musicians or groupies. I don't need a reputation based on partying. I would much rather keep the reputation that continues to earn me good jobs with serious bands.I divide my time at home between working, reading, learning electronics repair, exercising, watching TV/movies, and bugging my roommate.

My Interests

Music recording and production, live sound-reinforcement, location sound recording for film/video, audio electronics repair, reading, High Intensity Training , nutrition.

I'd like to meet:

The only friends I add to this account are people from the music or film industries. That means bands, musicians, tour managers, roadies, backline tech’s, touring merch people, misc. road crew, recording studio owners, producers, live music venue owners, concert promoters, booking agents, management agencies, film makers, video directors, production mixers, boom-op's, etc.I would like to meet mature, hard working, honest, unpretentious professionals. I have encountered enough immature, lazy, dishonest, music-snob hipsters to know the difference. If you've got hang-ups about people making money in the music industry, think "business" is a dirty word, or think that being in a musician or "creative type" allows one to lower their ethical standards then please don't waste your time contacting me. I only want to work where people are paid what they're worth, treated fairly, and respected for what they do. I've been very lucky to tour with a lot of bands whose music I absolutely love, which makes it much easier to go the extra mile when necessary. If you think that my skills, experience, work ethic, attitude, and personality could lead to us having a mutually beneficial relationship then please drop me a line. My daily and/or weekly rates are negotiable depending on the specifics of the job.

Music:

I enjoy everything ranging from Alt-Country to Heavy Metal, Jazz to Folk, Reggae to Punk Rock, and Classical to shameless Pop hits. Some of my favorite music that is not already in my top friends list includes: AC/DC An Angle The Animals Audrey Sessions Bif Naked Built for the Sea The Burning Brides The Charms Cold Hot Crash Creedance Clearwater Revival Death From Above 1979 D-Generation The Deadly Syndrome The Dirtbombs The DT'sEssenceEverybody ElseFinding Mercury Liam Finn Lionel Hampton Heartless Bastards Howlin' Wolf Husker Du Jessie Deluxe The Leather Uppers Led Zepplin Ligion Little Richard LoveLikeFire LKN Modern Lovers The New Up The Nightmares The Peels Monophonics Tom Petty Wilson Pickett Poor Bailey Portugal The Man Roadmark Rolling Stones Rush Sahara Hotnights Street to Nowhere Suffrajett Sugar Farm Heather Ross Beth Thornley Thriving Ivory Toots and the Maytals Turn Me On Deadman Tova Van Halen Viva HateThe Von Bondies Von Iva The WhoWhen I'm not touring I rarely go out to hear live music. Typically the sound systems in most clubs are lousy and even when they are adequate they're almost always TOO FUCKING LOUD ! ! ! Believe it or not, I don't normally like loud music and I always have a pair of earplugs with me anywhere I go. I'd rather not end up deaf before I'm 40.

Television:

I rarely watch TV as there's little I find worth watching, except for the Burger King commercials. Anyone that can invent words like "eggnormous" and "meatnormous" is OK with me... The smartest and funniest show ever broadcast on TV was Mystery Science Theater 3000 , and it was cancelled several years ago. Even The Simpson’s places a distant second to MST3K. I was recently turned on to the incredible show Firefly , which has only furthered my frustration with TV in general. The worst fucking dreck like "Friends" can last for years, while a show like Firefly can't get enough support to last a single season...Thankfully Dog the Bounty Hunter has made it for more than a single season. That show is truly great and I sincerely admire "Dog" and his family of bounty hunters. He's my kind of guy because he's as tough as nails, yet obviously very sensitive about human suffering and I believe he genuinely wants to help damaged people straighten out their lives. If you haven't seen the show you really should check it out. If you’re already a fan then I highly recommend that you purchase and listen to his entire life story in a 2 hour long audio interview conducted by Tony Robbins. You can read my review and then buy the 3 CD set on Amazon: BY CLICKING ON THIS LINK . Sadly, this world just doesn't seem to make very many men like Duane Chapman...I also like Gene Simmons Family Jewels, UFC/Ultimate Fighter, COPS, America's Most Wanted, and anything involving crazy police chases or morons getting their asses beat by cops.Oh, and FWIW, Marg Helgenberger is the hottest woman on TV.
