About Me

How absolutely delightful!Created with mySpace Profile Editor

My Interests

Granny Smiths, charity shops, wine gums, bagels, walking in the countryside, having singers articulate my emotions for me, brown leather suitcases, hugs, velvet jackets, post offices, writing adoring fan letters to unknown actors, Van Heusen shirts, small seaside resorts, setting the world to rights, white chocolate, having a cluttered room, clock-dial telephones and wondering how the hell someone as ugly as Adrian Chiles gets on national television.

I'd like to meet:

Klaus Kinski, but only from a distance...

Music:

Guess I'd better put a 'proper' list here, so... The Smiths, Talking Heads, Jens Lekman, The Beatles, Idlewild, The Divine Comedy, Ride, Ivor Cutler, The Libertines, Belle and Sebastian, Galaxie 500, Nina Simone, Dubstar, Babyshambles, Neils Children, The Shangri-La's, The Pixies, Lightning Seeds, The Fall, Dirty Pretty Things, Everything But The Girl, Arctic Monkeys, Rialto, My Life Story, Felt, Alma Cogan, The Delgados, Kathleen Ferrier, The Pogues, Sons and Daughters, Alisha's Attic, The White Stripes, Van Morrison, The Charlatans, The Go! Team, British Sea Power, The Magnetic Fields, Jeffrey Lewis, I Am Kloot, The Dears, Love Is All, Half Man Half Biscuit, The Gossip, The La's, Arcade Fire, Sandie Shaw, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Dandy Warhols, The Yell, The Vichy Government, Portishead, Morrissey, Saint Etienne, Camera Obscura, The Beautiful South, Patrick Wolf, The Undertones, Tindersticks, Nick Drake, The Vaselines, theaudience, Pulp, The Velvet Underground, The Specials, The Rapture, The Long Blondes, The Streets, Patti Smith... you get the general idea.

Movies:

Mike Leigh films. British New Wave stuff. Some silly comedies. And 'Network', which should tell you all you need to know about media manipulation:

Television:

The Simpsons, Peep Show, Black Books, This Life, Jam, Our Friends In The North, Brass Eye, M*A*S*H, Blackpool, Shooting Stars, Nathan Barley, Curb Your Enthusiasm, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Queer As Folk, The Likely Lads, The Day Today, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, The Singing Detective. I also like to watch far more of 'The Jeremy Kyle Show' than I'm happy to admit to.

Books:

Oscar Wilde, Stan Barstow, John Fowles, Harold Pinter, Shelagh Delaney, Joe Orton, Edwin Morgan, Alan Bennett, Samuel Beckett, Edward Bond and Zadie Smith to name a few. 'Billy Liar', 'Lolita' and 'A Confederacy Of Dunces' are great books too.

Heroes:

Jarvis Cocker. Hell yeah

The unbearable lightness of being in Donaghmore

"My heart is yearning For that familiar scene Of those dear blue lakes In that land far and green..." At least that’s what J. P. Donleavy said. Another boring time at home, in short.  I onl...

Jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam

In one of those all-involving family occasions today I attended my cousin's confirmation into the Church of Ireland.  I finished reading The God Delusion last week and was going to write somethin...

One year on MySpace!

In which time I have danced, drank, smoked, dropped, snorted, shopped, squandered, laughed, cried, ranted, raged, screamed, wined, dined, whined, pined, read, wrote, slapped, punched, scratched, cheat...

FYI and BTW

I've broken up with my partner/boyfriend/whatever you prefer of the last year and a half.  It's been generally amicable (at least that's the impression I got) and I'm bearing up okay, but it hasn...

My membership of The Official Danny Dyer Fan Club has been confirmed

Continuing my obsession with all things Dyer-esque (a phrase I doubt will enter common parlance anytime soon) I've joined his fanclub, my first since I joined the sadly defunct Pulp People f...

YouTube has taken over my life

Ever since I saw that clip of James Brown being interviewed high as a kite, I just can't get enough.  I spend all my time trying to find videos that I haven't seen for 9 or 10 years, and thus far...

A pox on Sony Ericsson

I woke up at 5.30 this morning, checked the time on my phone then switched it off again.  When I woke up around 9, I found I could not turn the phone on as the button is completely banjaxed. ...

I'M MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!!

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's work, banks are going bust...

Hurrah! 'The Likely Lads' on DVD

Now and then I like to binge out on classic BBC comedy, and I seem to be alone amongst my contemporaries in enjoying One Foot In The Grave.  So I was delighted to see in HMV the other week that t...
