About Me

My name is Preston James Ritter, I was born April 24, 1949. I'm a professional drummer, music teacher, private investigator, author and teacher of New Testament biblical theology. I had a successful kidney transplant on Nov. 1,1995 at UCLA Med Ctr. It is my second transplant. I was on dialysis for seven years until the second one.As a drummer, I've played with and/or recorded with The Electric Prunes, Linda Ronstadt, Dobie Gray, The Beach Boys, James Brown, Bo Diddley, Drifters, Coasters, Neil Diamond and many others both famous and unknown. I was also a DJ on the old L.A. KGIL-1260AM radio station together with Ken Griffin in 1972-73. On T.V., I have appeared on Dick Clark's "American Bandstand (2X)," "Where the Action Is (3X)," "Mike Douglas Show" "Ed Sullivan," "Cyd Charisse Special", "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and many other T.V. shows across the nation. The Electric Prunes music has been used in soundtracks for many T.V. shows and movies, including the classic, EASY RIDER. I have played drums for many other T.V. and movie soundtracks and on Korean television programs. I've also learned Tahitian drumming and used to play with a Polynesian dance group with my two daughters. As an author, I've published several books on drumming, theology (in Korean and English), newspaper columns (Korea Times-regular columnist), several Korean magazines and various newsletters. I've taught theology at several seminaries in S. Korea (1978-84). I was a non-denominational Christian missionary in Korea from 1978 to 1984. I also worked as a Police Officer in Los Angeles and as a L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy. I enjoy life and especially making new friends. I love receiving E-mail from anyone.Other name acts I've worked with include: Graham Bond (in England), Sassy Class (top L.A. show band in 70s) and many others. Used to be friends with Jimi Hendrix (toured with him in 60s, but not as his drummer). By the way, I was the drummer on every hit recording by the Electric Prunes (I Had Too Much To Dream; Get Me To The World On Time; Hideaway; etc.)I am currently one of the contributing writers for "Classic Drummer Magazine." I interveiwed Carmine Appice and Sandy Nelson for that magazine recently. I was also interviewed by Classic Drummer and Drum! Magazine. Go to the Classic Drummer and Drum Magazine web sites and look in their "archive" sections under my name.

My Interests

Music:

Jazz, rock, oldies, R&B, classic rock, most anything else except rap. Love KT Tunstall, the most talented singer/songwriter to come along in 20 years! She's from Scotland.

Movies:

Okay, I'm a guy, but I admit I tear up too easily in movies. I still do it during "Bambi" and "E.T." I even like a lot of the so-called "chick flicks." I liked "50 First Dates," "Titanic" and recently, the newest "King Kong." "Hitch" with Will Smith was funny. I know guys just like his character in that film. I don't try to hide all my emotions like most guys.Every time my daughters watch a sad movie with me, they spend half the time looking at me to see if I'm getting tears in my eyes. Well, what can I say? Just watch the friggin' movie will ya?I have too many favorites to list here by name. You want to invite me to go to the movies with you? Okay, I'll bring my own kleenix tissues! You buy the popcorn!

Television:

Live music, A & E, Discovery Channel, History Channel, CSI, Fox News Channel, BET Jazz. All movie channels. Used to watch MTV & VH1, but there's too much crap on them now.

Books:

Usually non-fiction on too many topics to write here. Especially like biographies, history, politics, theology, science.

Heroes:

I don't know if all of these people qualify as "My Heroes," but the four people I love the most are my daughters, Hannah and Larissa and granddaughters, Mia and Mackenzie. It seems Larissa, the youngest one, is following in my footsteps (for now anyway). She is a very good pro drummer and had her own band for awhile. My granddaughter, Mia, who is just a little over 3 1/2 yrs old, has learned to talk, and never stops! Hannah is her mother. The newest addition to the family is Mackenzie Grace, Hannah's second daughter. So I now am a granddfather twice over. She was born Sept 6, 2006. Hannah's husband, Jarrod, is a Sgt in the Army. He's in Iraq serving his second tour there. Larissa's husband, Benjie, is a Corporal in the Marines (soon to be a Sergeant), and was just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. I prayed for their safety every day and still pray for Jarrod while he's serving in Iraq on his second tour. All the American troops are definitely my "heroes!" God Bless them all. I am so proud of Benjie and Jarrod for their service to our country in a war zone.People I admire are Dr. John MacArthur Jr.(my church pastor), Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Sandy Nelson. All (except MacArthur) are great drummers and good friends. Of course Buddy is gone now. Other close friends are drummers, Carmine Appice and his brother, Vinny Appice, Bun E. Carlos, and especially my band mates, Mario Rivera, Ernie Ruiz, Micky Saunders and Fernando Moreno. Billy Jeansonne, publisher of Classic Drummer Magazine is a very good friend. These people have all been there for me when I needed them and I love them all.I have many other close friends that mean the world to me, that are not well known, but are real treasures God has placed on this earth for the rest of us to discover.Being in show biz, many of my friends have been in the music and acting biz, but many of my closest friends are "regular" people not in the entertainment field.?.. width="425" height="350" ..yo quiero no shower
