Chris Allen surrendered to full time ministry when he was 17 years old. He felt that God was calling him to enter into the youth ministry as a youth pastor. At the time, Chris had no passion for music. However, at age 19, he began learning how to play the guitar as a way to worship God privately and soon found himself having opportunities to minister through music by filling in the needs of leading worship at various times. In April 2001, Chris became the youth pastor he had dreamed of becoming at Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte, Texas.

“Well, praise God that His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, because the Lord definitely had different plans for me.” Chris said. For a couple of years later, God placed a passion for leading worship on the heart of Chris Allen and Chris knew that God was calling him to point people to Christ through his music.

Chris Allen is now the worship leader for Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, Texas. He travels around the United States as the lead singer of the Chris Allen Band. When asked what it means to be fulfilling God’s plans for his life, Chris said “I am not trying to impress anyone with my musical ability. I am not a musician; I am a worship leader. I just believe that music is such a huge part of our culture today that a large number of people can be reached for Christ through music that glorifies God.”

The friendship with Chris Allen began Chris Shippey’s senior year in high school when Chris Allen became his youth minister at Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte, Texas. They did not have a worship team for Wednesday nights and Chris decided to help his youth pastor out and began learning how to play the djembe. “Not long after, an old drum set was found in a gym closet and Chris Allen asked me if I would be willing to learn the drums in order to start a full time band with him. I learned how to play a few simple beats and then we started practicing together.” What began as helping out in the youth service has now become a passion for Chris Shippey. He played throughout high school and college and has now surrendered to full time ministry as the drummer for the Chris Allen Band. “I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at age seven and to this day I stand amazed at the faithfulness and love that God shows me everyday. I love worshiping God through song.”

Cordy Raney is the lead guitarist for the Chris Allen Band. He began playing the guitar at age twelve and that eventually lead Cordy to playing in the worship band in his high school youth group. After high school, Cordy went to Sam Houston State University and it was there that he met Chris Shippey. He and Chris became best friends and it was not long after that Cordy was introduced to Chris Allen. “I became a Christian at age seven and after meeting Chris Allen; God confirmed to me that I was to be a part of the Chris Allen Band and its ministry.” Cordy feels his calling to be in the band is far deeper than playing guitar or just for a love of music. “I am a sinner saved by grace alone. The reality of that is what has given me my passion to worship.”
