En el año 94, Luis Vargas a.k.a Sonico consigue equipos básicos de sonido casero como unidades de cd corrientes, un mezclador y una grabadora de cassettes. Sin ningún conocimiento previo como dj, improvisa mezclas precarias durante un tiempo buscando un sonido, influenciado por música experimental, 80..s, rock, punk, glam, rave, alternativa e industrial de artistas como Front 242, Pink floyd, B.R.A., Depeche Mode, Prodigy, Rage Against the Machine, The Clash, Trent Reznor y Soda Stereo.
Casi a mitad de los noventas, obtiene sus primeros vinilos de artistas como Dj Tim, Misjah, Speedy J., Wicked Wipe, etc., aún sin tener una idea específica de lo que quería hacer y siendo la comercialización del techno y más el hard techno casi nula en el país.
Con una tendencia estricta en su sonido, adquirió paralelamente un especial gusto por productores como Humate, Marmion y Mijk Van Dijk de Superstition Alemania al igual que Thomas Heckman, Glenn Wilson y The Advent, siendo ellos algunos de los más representativos en sus inicios.
En 1996, mientras estudiaba administración de empresas y comunicación social, profundiza más en su concepto musical y el aspecto técnico de las mezclas tras haber tenido una impresión definitiva del sonido que estaba buscando: el techno, inducido por el minimalismo de Jeff Mills, la fuerza de The Advent y el estilo trascendental de L.S.G.(Oliver Lieb).
La identidad en su sonido, el cual considera fundamental, su mezcla intensa, limpia y rápida y la noción vanguardista de la música le han hecho ganarse un espacio alternando fuera y dentro del país al lado de importantes artistas de la escena electrónica mundial en lugares como:
U.S.A. (Nueva York, Los Angeles), República Checa (Praga), Alemania(Berlín), Francia(París), Venezuela(Maracaibo, Barquisimeto) y España (Barcelona, Valencia).
Sonico es miembro del sello disquero de Londres 50 hz( www.50hz-techno.com), propiedad de Jamie Bismirre(uno de los Space djz junto a Ben Long), al lado de artistas como Chris Liebing, Bam Bam, Space djz, Paul Langley, Manu Kenton, Aaron, Dj Deeon, etc.. y el sello Holandés 2Recordz(www.2recordz.com) como parte de su pool de artistas en Rótterdam.
Sus proyectos como productor musical son: Sonico (techno, hard), R.A.D.-resistencia anarquica digital- (minimal, electro, breaks), D.C. Input (alternativa electrónica punk digital) y Bazooka (drum n bass).
Sonico maneja su sello disquero Techsound, único sello nacional de techno que pública vinilos, en el cual se plasman principalmente las producciones del colectivo y sus aliados bajo 3 series : Techsound Black, Techsound White y Techsound Extra.
El trabajo Techsound Extra 01-Reconexión D.C. incluye canciones de Sonico (Techsound, 50 hz Londres), Statik(Techsound, Pornographic Bélgica), Blanali (Techsound, Flumo España) y Tim Xavier (productor de U.S.A. techno y minimal a nivel mudial con sellos como Limited 400 y Klickhause).
Su nuevo trabajo : -The Colombian Connection- en la serie Techsound Black 01(enfocado en hardbeats) contiene tracks de Jamie Bissmire, Ben Long, Ade Fenton y Sonico.

Techsound es el resultado de 10 años promoviendo un concepto de músical electrónico ideológico en el país.
Su toque actual (dj set o live act) acoge todo su background musical y se inspira en elementos sociales y urbanos incluyendo en sus sets fraseos soportados por ritmos fuertes, subversivos y brutales: estilo callejero o ghetto…emotivo en su feeling… techno y hard techno mental, subterráneo, inteligente e intenso…

…..en cuanto a djs productores tengo gran admiración por artistas como Jeff Mills, L.S.G., The Advent, Technasia, Rush, Prozac y Jamie Bissmirre…… Independientemente del estilo que representa cada uno y sin necesariamente ellos tocar lo que yo toco, los admiro porque son genios en lo que hacen, porque hacen lo que quieren, no temen correr riesgos, van a la vanguardia y sucede sólo porque hacen lo que les gusta…, los admiro por su clase, su identidad y sobre todo, la actitud…..
.....vivo en un país que me nutre de todo lo que necesito para influenciar mi toque, esto es en gran parte lo que me hace inclinarme hacia los sonidos duros de la guerra, la máquina, lo sintético, el caos y la subversión… Es lo que más va con mi personalidad, mis experiencias y mi ideología … Al fin y al cabo el techno se trata de actitud…..

If you say the word Techno in South America and specially Colombia, you sure have to mention the name of Sonico.
His contribution to the electronic scene in his country comes from the button of effort and conviction of his beliefs, and in a good part, is his fault what is happening today with techno in this nation.
Born in a latin jazz, salsa and 80..s music lovers family, he became a music addict at early age. Grew up with experimental, 80..s, rock, glam, rave, industrial, rave, acid, and punk music, listening bands like Front 242, The Cure, B.R.A., Rage Against the Machine, NIN, Soda Stereo, Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin, The Clash, Pink Floyd…etc
The year is 1994. Luis Vargas buys some simple home equipment such as a cd player, a mixer and a tape recorder while he was at school. With no previous knowledge as a dj, he improvises precarious mixes looking for a sound influenced basically by experimental music. After playing in his own little private ghetto and squad parties for two years, he started the colonization all around. It was a hard time for his style because house was ruling the city and nobody was interested in his work.
In 1996 while he was studying business administartion and social communication, he moved to another level, getting deeper in his music proposal and the technical aspect after consolidate a final impression concerning the sound he was looking for: techno….induce by the minimalism of Jeff Mills, The Advent’s powerful strength and L.S.G.’s(Oliver Lieb) dark mental style.
The Techno colonization kept going little by little now at the small clubs in Bogotá, then the big raves, then some other cities, then the whole country and South America most of all in the after hours.
Founder of the Colombian principal techno crew and label –Techsound-(www.techsound.org www.myspace.com/techsoundcolombia), he is a former technician sound engineer that works at his home studio(Techsound Studio).
The identity in his sound, which he considers fundamental, his mental driving and dynamic style, and the vanguard perception about music, have make him deserve a space in and outside his country besides worldwide representative artists from electronic music scene as one of the most respected techno dj producer in Latin America as in:
U.S.A. (New York, Los Angeles), Chez. Rep (Praga), Germany(Berlín), France(París), Venezuela(Maracaibo, Barquisimeto) and Spain (Barcelona, Valencia).
Sonico is also part of Techno world re known Jamie Bissmire..s label 50 hz from London(www.50hz-techno.com) as 2Recordz(www.2recordz.com) from Rotterdam.
His musical knowledge embrace many concepts adquire through his career but he likes to be seen as a techno dj by all means. No wonder as a dj he plays 2 main sets beyond the genres but keeping an identity in his sound, one is very conceptual and mental (minimal, techno, breaks) and the other one (techno, hard techno, jackin, ghetto tech) very agressive, jackin, powerful urban style.
As producer, he manages several projects as: Sonico(minimal, techno, hard techno), R.A.D.-Resistencia Anárquica Digital-(electro, minimal, techno, breaks), D.C. Input(digital punk) and Bazooka( drum n bass).
His release Techsound extra 01: Reconexión D.C. contains tracks from TS collective and friends as Sonico (Techsound, 50 hz London), Statik(Techsound, Pornographic Belgium), Blanali (Techsound, Flumo Spain) and Tim Xavier(Limited, Klickhause, Clink).
His last release -The Colombian Connection- on the Techsound Black Series 01 wich contains tracks by Jamie Bissmire, Ben Long, Ade Fenton and his own is a top point in Sonico..s career.
TS records, his independent label is the only Colombian Techno label that press vinyls.
