About Me

This is the new iPod + iTunes TV ad with "Cubicle" track.
..
For about ten years, rinocerose have invented original, innovative electronic music, by mixing the electro beats energy and rock guitar's intensity. Their music is full of seventies rock nostalgia, "baggy" pop inspiration, "dub" warmth and sweetness, funky musical flights, new rock resurgences, that all feed a universe where bold electronic anthems come from. Coming from Montpellier in the south of France, the band has already released fours albums: "Retrospective" (Stereophonic Elefant Dance Recordings), "Installation Sonore" , "Music Kills Me" and "Schizophonia" (V2 Music) and performed more than 250 gigs all around the world, perceived as explosive live performances.Created in 1994 by the couple Jean-Philippe Freu and Patrice "Patou" Carrie, rinocerose recorded for two years - almost secretly - instrumental electronic nonchalant as well as rebel stuff, that they mixed with acoustic instruments (guitar, bass guitar, percussions, etc.). The rinocerose's sound is already there, innovative and original. House music beats (produced by their friend Johnny Palumbo), hot and bewitching bass guitars close to dub, incisive guitar riffs, intense and seductive phrasing: all the above brings about enticing musical experience. Titles are at the same time rocking and sensual, furious and carnal. The album "Retrospective", released in 1997 on the Spanish label Stereophonic Elefant Dance Recordings, compiles their initial and essential recordings. This album includes among other things the titles "Inacceptable", "Metal Mental Dub", "Machine pour les oreilles", and the explosive remake of "Bloodsport" by Killing Joke.At the end of 1996, rinocerose changed their stage's methods. They hired musicians and technicians and start to perform on famous European festivals. On stage, the group mixes music (with three guitars), light and live transmitted images. At the "Transmusicales" in Rennes, at the Benicassim festival, at the Boralis festival, on "Les Inrockuptibles" tour or supporting Underworld or Roni Size & Reprazent in Paris, rinocerose were so impressive that they quickly became a reference for live electronic music using guitars.V2 Music, Richard Branson's international label, signed rinocerose in 1999 and released the hit single "Le Mobilier" and the album "Installation Sonore". On this record, the musical alchemy is perfect : rock and pop guitars, deep bass dubs, sensual and burning beats, light and airy flutes and vibrating percussions. "Installation Sonore" that includes the songs "La Guitaristic House Organisation", "Le Mobilier", "Mes Vacances Rio" et "Le Triangle", makes you want to sway to its sensual beats.Within the trend "French touch", "Installation Sonore" is perceived as a perfect mix of house music and the best of rock culture. From then on rinocerose have been touring all around the world : in big festivals in Europe (Glastonbury, Roskilde, Dour Festival, Reading, Les Vieilles Charrues, Pukkelpop, Leeds, Benicassim, Les Eurockeennes, Paleo, etc.) but also in North America (United States, Canada). In the summer of 2001, rinocerose were invited by Moby to play during the 17 dates tour "Area:One" in the United States together with New Order, OutKast, The Roots, The Orb, Carl Cox, Incubus, Nelly Furtado, etc.Following the phenomenon "Installation Sonore", the album "Music Kills Me" released in 2002 appears like a figurative record, a big house-rock fresco that makes you feel like dancing. On this record memories of well-known 70s rock figures such as Steve Marriott from the Small Faces, Brian Jones, The Rolling Stones, or Jimi Hendrix can be heard and rinocerose also paid homage to The Cure and AC/DC. "Music Kills Me" notably includes titles such as "Le Rock Summer", "Music Kills Me", "Lost Love" and "Dead Flowers". For this album, rinocerose were nominated for "Les Victoires de la Musique" (the French Grammy Awards) and the DJ and producer Felix Da Housecat was nominated for the American Grammy Awards for his remix of the single "Lost Love". rinocerose went on a tour presenting this record full of energy and dynamism that was destined for live performances. Thus they travelled through Europe, North America and discovered new countries such as Lebanon, Columbia, Argentina and Chile.French popstar Nicola Sirkis asked the band to do a remix for his own band Indochine and some of the bands songs were remixed by The Rapture and The Glass (on the maxi "Music Kills Me" in 2003). Before that time rinocerose had already made remixes for French popstar Katerine ("Je vous emmerde" in 1999) and for Archive ("Cloud In The Sky" in 1999).After a two-year tour to promote the album "Music Kills Me", rinocerose released the maxi "Fucky Funky Music" on the Swiss label Panorama Records in 2004. The record was signed by The Highway Stars a joke name - and explored new horizons. In fact working on their forthcoming album, the band decided to work with singers. The album "Schizophonia" was finally released in September 2005 and featured Bnaan (Infadels / London), Mark Gardener (former singer of Ride / London), Nuutti Kataja (Dead Combo / New York City), Dominique Keegan (The Glass / New York City), and Jessie Chaton (Fancy / Paris). While making this record which mixes electronic beats and rock guitar rage, the guest singers were persuaded by psychologists namely Jean-Philippe Freu and Patrice Carri, to express their paradoxical, decadent and marginal behaviours.Recorded over a period of two years, between Montpellier, Paris, Lausanne and London, "Schizophonia" was created with the help of renown, practicing electronic savvy artists such as Johnny Palumbo, Steve Dub (The Chemical Brothers, Audio Bullys) or Shakedown. The record includes the tracks "Get Ready Now", "Bitch", "My Demons" and "Cubicle". The latter, sung by Bnaan from the UK band Infadels, has been chosen by Apple in spring 2006 to illustrate the new TV campaign for the nano Ipod ("1000 songs in your pocket").Meanwhile, rinocerose started touring again in the summer of 2005 all over Europe doing huge festivals in front of thousands of fans. For the year 2006, new gigs are scheduled in Central America, South America, North America, Europe and Japan. By the end of the year rinocerose will celebrate their 10th year of live performances and will go on acting as the forerunners of mixing diverse styles, "electronic" in spirit and "rock" at heart.
