About Me

moving this to the top so that those with short attention spans can take note of it:
While I'm not a MySpace Snob, and I'm not going to put restrictions on who can/can not request to add me as a friend on here, I do ask that you send some sort of introductory note along with the add request, instead of just doing a blind add for the sake of adding people to your network.
It doesn't have to be a novel, just something along the lines of how you got here and what you find interesting (or distressing), such as:
"I bounced in from ___, and I think you're a dork and therefore simultaneously empathize with you and idolize you. Please spank me."
or even
"I found you by way of ___ and ___, and I also like cottage cheese smothered in Mentos, and playing full contact polo on llama-back so we have similar interests", or something like that.
If you send a blind friend request and nothing else, and I don't already know you in real life, chances are it will be deleted. So don't waste our time, okay?
and now for something completely different...
I've been told that I have a real talent for comedy and making people laugh. Then I realized I mostly heard this line when I was naked, but I still manage to get a few people chuckling every now and then while fully clothed.
I am more than willing to embarass myself in the pursuit of humor, but I'm also willing to involve you or somebody else. I'm fair like that. Just remember, if you can't laugh at yourself in life -- the rest of the world has no such restrictions! ;-)
So if you have a sharp tongue, a quick wit, and a good sense of humor, then all is right with the world and we will get along famously. If I can make you snort and/or pee your pants, then I consider it a victory. What, you don't enjoy laughing? Oh, bad news there, might want to move along...
On a somewhat more serious note:
I love the shape and sound and the meaning (and the fury?) of words and language and communication.
I would rather play sports than watch them, especially if it's ice hockey.
I am a world famous hand model. No, really. :)
I love to watch people -- it gives me ideas for characters and dialogue in stories. I love conversation, especially about something more important than the latest trends in hair styles.
I love psychology and all of its pathways (neurochem, biopsych, cognition, perception and sensory processes, etc.).
I am fascinated by the way things interconnect.
I enjoy being around passionate, creative, genuine individuals.
If I don't know the answer to something, I'll simply say so, and I likewise appreciate it when people don't try to snow me.
I create recipes for gourmet desserts (chocolate truffles, lemon bars, brownies, etc.), the kitchen is my second laboratory; I'm considering starting a high end catering company, but as with anything else with my projects, it's a matter of time (moslty, not enough of it). Though the list is getting a little long, I'm always open to requests for new taste testers.
I would rather have close friendships than distant acquaintances.
I have far more interests than I have time to pursue them all in their entirety, but that doesn't stop me from pursuing them and pushing myself.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.

My Interests

fine food, hockey, cooking, neuroanatomy, creative writing, baking, chocolate, hacking, laughter, kolmogorov complexity, psychology, desserts, linguistics, painting, foreign languages, movies that make you think, drawing, quantum entanglement, comedy, neurochemistry, programming, music of all kinds, strange attractors, information security, poetry, cryptography, wave functions, perception, recipes, sensory processes, bittersweet, liqueur, deep structures, performance driving, photography, modeling

I'd like to meet:

Looking to meet people with similar interests, and also people with dissimilar interests. Variety is a good thing -- habitual flakes are not (I don't mean once every now and then, but routinely). If you're a flake, please merely waste your own time and not that of anyone else, life is too short as it is. :-)

Whatever. As a friend once said, "it's no big deal... it's just life!"
