Most people recognize the most hype music in the world would be dancehall reggae feeding off of hype and vibes alone. Jamaica is a small island in the West Indies which breeds thousands of dancehall artiste and stars. Dancehall Reggae exploded onto the scene in the 1980s. And broke threw international in the early 90s with Shabba Ranks, thousands soon followed. Shabba Ranks received the first Grammy for the dancehall movement.Born in Kingston, Jamaica 1978 DSmooth’s parents’ flew him to America at an early age hoping to seek better opportunities in South Florida. Growing up in South Florida DSmooth was exposed first to all the elements of the Hip Hop culture. In the late 90s frequent visits to Jamaica led to DSmooth’s dabbling in Dancehall and a quest to master his own style of DJing. In 2002 DSmooth was attending school in Virginia were there was a school talent show coming up. As the only Jamaican in the school that could DJ the minority international students office that were arranging the show begged DSmooth to perform. Finally agreeing to perform not knowing what to expect. DSmooth preformed in front of his first crowd of 800 people. As he touched the stage and said “YO†the place railed up. By the time his performance was over everyone in the crowed was on their feet dancing. That performance led to DSmooth’s first musical award for best male artiste of the year 2002. That’s when he realized it was his destiny. That performance led to DSmooth performing at most of the school events, and a lot of local clubs. Also recording special dubs for local sounds in central VA. Finishing school in 2004 DSmooth knew where he had to go. So the whole summer of 2004 DSmooth spent in Jamaica. He linked up with long time breadrin Advocate who was an engineer at “Jolly and Sonâ€, a studio in New Kingston. DSmooth spent the whole summer in the studio learning almost everything he needed to know about the business and recorded two tracks. At the end of 2004 DSmooth linked up with Spriggie an artiste from Portmore. He introduced DSmooth to Star Child who owned a studio in North Miami Beach. There is where he recorded Bless and Real Gentleman and some special dubs for various sounds. Bless and Real Gentleman went straight on South Florida’s number one Caribbean radio station 101.9 Vibez FM, Flava 101.1, and Mix 96 giving DSmooth a big buzz all over South Florida. DSmooth also preformed at Club Your Turn and Frassa Fridays in Miami.C-Chizel A long time breadrin and an up coming video director & music producer flew to Miami and teamed up with Sammy Question “One of Jamaica’s funniest comedians†to directed DSmooth’s first video for Real Gentleman. Chizel got the video played on Reggae Entertainment and Sammy Question got it played on Hype TV in March of 2006. In June of 2006 DSmooth moved back to Jamaica in pursuit of starting his music career voicing of 18 tunes for Chizel. Half of the tunes that he voiced for C-Chizel went straight on Kingston, Jamaica’s Rebel Radio 91.3fm. Then linking up with the godfather of dancehall “King Jammys†DSmooth voiced “Up in the Party†for his son Jam-2. DSmooth also preformed at Asylum nightclub in New Kingston, and preformed at Red Stripe’s Charity Out Reach. DSmooth shot 2 videos produced by C-Chizel. The first video was C-Chizel’s Rain Drops Medley, and the second video was the Informa video shot in April of 2007. DSmooth is 100% independent right now performing in Jamaica, Miami, Virginia, New York, and Atlanta. DSmooth would like to take his career to the next level and needs your help.
