Life is so much sweeter through a telephoto lens.

About Me

I am a passionate and energetic photographer by trade, culinary lover, and author who dabbles in pretty much anything that involves right-brain stuff. (view my photography galleries at kristinawright.net ) My creative space is my happy place. I am a social girl (and that's probably the understatement of the year.) I love camaraderie, good company and meeting new people from all walks of life...preferably peering through or over the top of my lens.
Here are some samples of my work...

And lastly, I volunteer for Street Roots Newspaper. You can see me in a little part of this video around the 3min 30sec point...
I am a member of the National Press Photographers Association with a current passport and international insurance on my gear.
I am working on a documentary book on Homelessness.
Some background on me: I was adopted into a Midwest American family who was about as perfect as I could ever ask for. My biological mother is Syrian and my dad is French. I spent my childhood in Michigan and got my first professional camera at age 14. I moved to Portland in 2004 and everything in between was spent in and around Seattle. I have two brothers...Kirk and David and they are the best thing since sliced bread.
If I won the lottery today, I would set out to photograph the beautiful souls of different cultures. Let me dance or dance with me. (Salsa, ballroom, line dancing... diversity..teach me something new)
With few exceptions, I look forward to every day. I enjoy chick flicks, Oprah and all that is nauseatingly girly as much as I'm a fan of power tools and mowing my lawn. I can admit when I'm wrong. Give me a reason to host a dinner party! I am a romantic. I love fresh flowers and being the recipient of the occasional drunken-dialing.
I am a night owl. I write at night, I dream at night, and I find my fun, passion and creativity at night. The moon and stars must connect with me on some level. My FUN and my FAVORITES: I am now officially a gym rat. I used to run and my knees have made it clear that we're all done with that. So I weight train & spin & do a little yoga mixed with whatever the cardio machine of the day is. I've shot photographs as a hobby for over 21 years and now it is my profession. (How lucky am I?) I love a great b/w image. I like to paint and I dig all kinds of movies as long as I can't predict the outcome. White/straight teeth are a personal fetish. There's not much better than a crackin Midwest thunderstorm and oh, how I love shoes. Some of my most peaceful and exciting memories are from the time that I've spent on boats. I appreciate a good restaurant with great ambiance and trying new foods. Want to speak to my heart? Treat me to either sautéed mushrooms & rare filet mignon in the city or asparagus and fresh crab on the beach; beer in a chilled glass w/ a salted rim or wine in the red & spicy category. SOLD!
Favorite Spots: Parallel 45 (Tualatin, OR), Henrys patio in the summer ~(Portland OR.) Fajita Banana at the Marina in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Hubers in the winter in Portland for a Spanish Coffee, my bath tub no matter what city I'm in, Wine Down (Portland OR) in front of their fireplace, Monsoon Cafe (Key West, Florida) A.J.'s steakhouse and Aureole (Las Vegas) and saving the best for last: my parents cabin in the San Juan Islands (Washington.) I love trying new restaurants, new food & seeing new places (can you believe I've never been to Hawaii?) so I'm sure there is much to add to this list that I've not yet experienced.
Day to day, well, I just want to be better at everything that I do. I love photographing people, food and wine, famous faces and international places.

My Interests

WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY? Photography, sleeping in, being woke up with kisses and coffee, Vernors ginger ale, sushi, text messages from Tulsa, heavy down comforters, being on or near the water, dreaming, egg salad sandwiches, dancing, laughing, writing and dreaming about publishing, warm winter nights in Key West, art, ginger tea, hot tubs in Mexico, a rockin' spin class, satsumas, the city - any city, coffee with a dash of Chai tea flavored creamer, bike rides in the rain when it's warm, thinker-type movies, cooking and tasting, snowshoeing, shopping and shoes, boating on a perfect summer day, Arby's Cheddar and Roast Beef sandwich, grape tootsie pops or hot tamales; sewing halloween costumes, traveling ~ either 5-star or adventures in a bungalow somewhere, painting walls/faces/canvas's with lots of color and seeing my brothers happy. Oh, and don't you just love it when the electricity goes out? I think it's a sign.

I'd like to meet:

A list of those that I would love to photograph: Annie Leibovitz, Etta James, Sen. Barack Obama, Lenny Kravitz, Oprah, Fanelie Rosier, Nelson Mandela, Matthew Mcconaughey, Marilyn Manson, Dennis Banks, Morgan Freeman, Mohammad Ali, Jay-Z, The Dalai Lama, Katie Couric, Vince Vaughn, Jack Black, Will & Jada, Dan Rather, Keith Urban, Maya Angelou, Norah Jones, Willie Nelson, Aung San Suu Kyi, Ralph Nader, Michael Jordan, JK Rowling, Rudy Giuliani, Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood, Dave Matthews, Bindi Irwin, Anderson Cooper, Andy Rooney, Cheryl Chase and I'm sure there's more that I've forgotten. ..
My Montage 12/19/07

Music:

Hold on to your belt buckle: by the end of this you're going to say "What in the hell?" Van Morrison; Tupelo Honey speaks to my soul. Michael Buble, Save the Last Dance for Me is fantastic. I like bluesy jazz...the gritty southern kind that we should be sitting on a front porch in the muggy southern weather to listen to. Give me reflection: Norah Jones or John Coltrane. I'm REALLY into Daft Punk right now for workin' out. I like the BodyRockers, Goldfrapp and Sandi Thom from the uk...they give me energy. I imagine that I'm a super hero in a video game when I listen to them and run my weekly trail. I like punchy Country music as long as it doens't get to hokey. I like Jay-Z and a variety of angry rap music on a Friday or Saturday night. I'm a big fan of Singer/Songwriter stuff; Kirk Duncan is my brother and an incredibly talented songwriter. (request his music on Satellite radio by clicking here RideByKirkDuncan )Keegan Smith, Jack Johnson, John Mayor and Amos Lee. I like Sinatra, Eddie Rabbit (yes, you read that right) and the Bee Gees. I like Classical when I clean the house or sit in the tub. I dig House/Trance sometimes when I'm out on the town with a certain someone (you know who you are!) and we groove like rock stars. AC/DC rocks and I'm irritated I can't download them on iTunes. I adore latin & salsa...my ethnic side coming out. Who can resist classics like Sinatra, Billie Holiday and Tony Bennett? I like top 40 and 80's music when I'm tired of the others. Everything in moderation keeps all kinds of music fresh for me. BUT, when you've had a REALLY bad day, no one can bring a smile to your face like Barry can. "Barry who?" you ask?
"Her name was lola, she was a showgirl, With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there, She would merengue and do the cha-cha, And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar, Across the crowded floor, they worked from 8 til 4, They were young and they had each other, Who could ask for more?"(Common, sing with me and don't act like you're not smiling)"At the copa, copacabana, The hottest spot north of havana, At the copa, copacabana, Music and passion were always in fashion, At the copa.... they fell in love"
and you know the rest because you're still singing it...
