Franky Perez is a Cuban-American rock 'n' roller with a knack for honest and impassioned songwriting, a timeless sound and the kind of live show that buckles your knees. The Las Vegas native carries himself with the quiet pride of a self-made blue-collar worker, but under the bravado is a poignant and heartfelt storyteller. On his second release, My 4th of July, Perez combines good old-fashioned rock n roll with a little Latin soul. Reflecting on his own life, he creates anthems connecting with his audience through universal emotions and the struggles of the everyman in the characters of his songs; Perez is an American classic. The son of Cuban emigrants, Perez was drawn to music at an early age. He learned multiple instruments and listened to every record collection he could get his hands on. After cutting his teeth in local bands, he left his hometown of Las Vegas for Miami where he could explore his Latin heritage and study with Cuban exile, conga master and Santeria priest, Lazaro Valdez. Perez then headed for the West Coast where he enlisted the best musicians he could find and rehearsed the songs he had written during his travels for hours every night. After grabbing the attention of label President Jason Flom, Perez signed a deal with Lava/Atlantic. For his first record, the prolific artist recorded 45 songs and in 2003 the label released Poor Man's Son to critical acclaim. Containing 17 songs that Perez dubbed his recession special, the record was produced and/or co-produced by the artist along with Jim Scott (Matthew Sweet) and Mark Hudson (Aerosmith) among others. Perez took his act on the road, joining Jason Mraz, and sharing festival billing with John Mayer, Foo Fighters, The Wallflowers, etc. VH1 soon picked up the video for the single Something Crazy including it in regular rotation. CMT.com named Poor Mans Son to a list of top 20 of gems of 2003.After touring for over a year, Perez returned to Las Vegas to write and re-charge. Perez continued writing and in the winter of 2004, recorded My 4th of July in the intimacy of his own home. Fulfilling a need to create a body of work that was true to his own vision and himself, Perez played his own drum parts (recorded in his foyer), guitar, keyboards, and sang vocals at his own pace in his own control room. Having the freedom to press record whenever he wanted, he produced a body of work with a cohesiveness and honesty of which Perez is incredibly proud. The songwriting is tight, well-crafted, and highly accessible. The production is both dynamic and pleasing while allowing Perez the freedom to express his clear and soulful voice. In 2005 Perez has been holding court at a weekly residency at the Suncoast in Las Vegas, performing his new material to his hungry and loyal fans. While the essential form of his music has never changed, the multi-instrumentalist and impassioned songwriter has matured as an artist. After walking away from his record deal citing creative differences, Perez is enjoying the creative freedom and limitless potential of his independent release. My 4th of July is a collection of ten songs as passionate and personal as ever, each delivered with a grit and menace which drives his live performances and continues to win over audiences nationwide.
