About Me

Ben White's recent move to Los Angeles primes him to become one of the city's in-demand session and touring bass players. After paying his dues on the East Coast club circuit, Ben migrated to Austin where he quickly became a staple of the college towns thriving music scene, playing with artists such as Kacy Crowley (Atlantic), Edens Plot (Pencil/thin) and Austin mainstay Troy Dillinger. After several tours of the Midwest and Europe as a sideman, Ben brought his own band to California. In Los Angeles, Ben quickly began securing session work in television music and albums for such clients as Warner Brothers, Disney, Word Records, Hollywood Records, and JSM Music.
Ben has shared stages with legends such as:
Gerry Brown (Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea)
Ricky Lawson (The Yellowjackets, Michael Jackson)
Rick Latham (Edgar Winter, author of Advanced Funk Studies)
Renowned sidemen such as:
Robin DiMaggio (Paul Simon)
Jay Gore (Hillary Duff, Scott Grimes)
David Leach (Ben Harper)
Ellis Hall (Tower Of Power, Kenny G)
George Shelby (LA Session badass)
He has recorded with, among others:
Christian Burns (formerly of BBMak, for Hollywood Records)
Josh Kelley (Hollywood)
Kimberly Caldwell (American Idol finalist)
Shooter Jennings (Universal South)
Diamond Dallas Page (WCW)
Country legend Jessie Colter
Rami Antoun (Seal)
Mark Needham (Fleetwood Mac, The Killers)
Glen Sobel (Beautiful Creatures, Jennifer Batten)
Michael Frondelli (Oingo Boingo, Crowded House)
Suge Knight (Death Row Records).
Influenced from a very young age by such disparate interests as Jimmy Cliff, John Williams, Earth Wind and Fire, Kiss, and whatever was on the radio in his mother's car, Ben experimented with several instruments before finding his true voice in the bass at age 14. Musically devouring anything he could get his hands on, he taught himself the instrument by learning all the Rush, Metallica, Primus, Frank Zappa, and Mr. Bungle he could find. His high school jazz band director told his parents "he's got one of the ten best ears I've ever seen". He was gigging professionally by 17, and though he tried to find a contingency plan in college, he left school to perform full time at 20. After moving around New England, where he'd grown up, Ben struck out on his own and headed for Austin, TX. There he learned what it takes to be professional, logging hundreds of gigs and thousands of miles on the road, playing everything from blues and country to jazz and fusion, pop rock to thrash metal, and almost everything in between. But eventually the Texas heat drove him to balmy Los Angeles, where he continues the relentless pursuit of his passion.
Ben's theoretical knowledge and technical facility is tempered by a disciplined and tasteful respect for the song; he can take the spotlight but he knows the role of his instrument. His strengths are multiple: versatility, an ability to learn material on the spot and retain it indefinitely, a strong ear, and, just as important, an easy going nature.
Ben is available for touring and recording opportunities.
Ben is endorsed by Euphonic Audio, makers of high-end bass amplification.

I played on a record by a guy named Joe Brucato. I'm on 2 tunes (I think, I'll have to see which tunes made the record), but the rhythm section on the rest of the record is Steve Gadd (d) and Tony Levin (b). Tony's a longtime hero of mine. Long story short, Tony and Steve played the record release party in Rochester NY, and Tony had to learn the tunes I played. That's right, Tony Levin learned MY lines. Holy Shit. At any rate, David Rice, who was also on the gig, shot this video.
Sounds Like: I can fit in seamlessly almost anywhere, but I always sound like me.
