IT ALL BEGAN………………………..Once upon a time in a far away land called Los Angeles, a little 3 year old toddler awoke from his sleep to go to the bathroom. In a sleepy daze, he wandered down the hall. But, instead of turning right into the “bathroom”, he turned left into the “living room”, walked over to the piano bench, lifted the lid and…………………….. So began his relationship with music. Unbeknownst to his mother, who was watching from the sidelines and trying desperately not to laugh, she was witnessing her son’s first gig…………..(true story)THE TEEN YEARS……………………..Drawing from his gene pool (his mother was a music major and his dad had played professional baseball), both music and sports were a major part of his growing years. Fate would have it while playing varsity baseball for USC, Greg had a career ending injury. So, he hung up the bat and picked up the guitar.FAST FORWARD TO SPAIN……………………………….After graduating college, Greg moved to Spain to teach English. He had a musical epiphany and decided to make music his career. Playing guitar in the subways and on the streets of Madrid, the diverse style of Greg’s songwriting started to take shape.BACK IN THE USA…………………………………..After making the decision to pursue music, Greg returned to Los Angeles. Over the next few years, he played in several LA bands but continued to write his own songs on the side. When several of these bands broke up, he made the decision to go on his own as a singer/songwriter……and the music and lyrics began to flow.THE MUSIC………………………………Wanna stay up all night? Then listen to a Greg Haptor song. His memorable melodies, harmonies and great hooks will run through your head. Writing his own music and lyrics, he performs on both guitar and piano and additionally plays bass. harmonica and other string and percussive instruments. Lyrics and commentaries on the tough realities of life are sometimes cleverly wrapped in upbeat, catchy melodies that make the messages palatable… kind of like a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine taste better. His songs about love, life and social issues are written with the same trait of strong melodic lines that grab you right from the beginning.Haptor’s music appeals to a broad spectrum of listeners. His early influences by The Beatles, Paul Weller, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Randy Newman George Gershwin and Burt Bachrach, among others, have contributed to his diversity. Yet at the same time, he has created a signature style and sound of his own. His song writing is not formulated, and, as you listen, you can’t help be intrigued that these songs all come from the same person. This ability to truly get to the essence of a song and its style has been a great asset in the work he does producing and co-writing for other artists. He was chosen out of 10,000 artists who applied to the 2NMC, in Nashville, to be showcased. He can currently be heard as a featured artist on a 25 Records international compilation CD along with Billie Holiday, Badly Drawn Boy, Madeleine Peyroux, Pharrell Williams, Duncan Sheik, Yellow Card, Cassandra Wilson and others. Two of his first songs were used by Warner Bros. on a television series. He continues to play the Los Angeles club scene and has developed a growing following. He has just finished recording his first solo album.
