After my World War II service, I attended the University of Kentucky where I got the acting bug after appearing in a production of "Pygmalion". I dropped out of college after three years and headed to California, where I studied at the Pasadena Playhouse alongside Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall. I became a member of the American Male Chorus and toured the US, then settled briefly in New York to work in children's theatre before returning to California, this time trying my luck in Hollywood. I got work almost immediately and have been steadily employed since. I hope I keep going until the day I leave the earth. I also started my own band, "The Harry Dean Stanton Band". We play mariachi music, and I sing and play the guitar. You can usually find us playing around L.A.
