About Me

Marilyn Monroe, real name Norma Jeane Baker was born on the 1st of June,1926 in Los Angeles County Hospital. Her mother did not want to to look after her,so marilyn was placed with foster parents,Albert and Ida Bolender.Who she thought were her biological parents, until one day Ida rudely corrected her.Gladys (her mother) visited her every saturday, but never smiled, hugged or kissed her.At some point,Gladys bought a house for her and her daughter. But not long after,Gladys sufferered a mental breakdown and was taken to a mental hospital.Gladys best friend became marilyns guradian, but after she married, marilyn was sent to an orphanage. Then to foster home after foster home. She was later reunited with her mother, but the Goddard family thought that it would be best if marilyn stayed there and married, she was only 15.She later went on to marry James Dougherty,a neighbors son. They later divorced, due to neither of them being inlove. While james was fighting in World War 2,marilyn started work at a factory, where she was discovered by a photographer. She was soon signed to a modelling agency. She became one of their most successful models, appearing on hundreds of magazine covers. She was offered a 6 month contract with 20th Century Fox.She played 2 minor roles in films ,and her contract wasnt renewed again because both films were failures. She returned to modelling work, where she started to make many contacts in Hollywood. In 1948 a six-month stint at Columbia Pictures saw her star in one movie, Ladies of the Chorus, but it was not a success and she was dropped. She then met one of Hollywood's top agents, Johnny Hyde, who had Fox re-sign her after MGM had turned her down. Although Fox vice-president Darryl F. Zanuck was not convinced of Monroe's star potential, she began to make her mark with performances in films such as All About Eve and The Asphalt Jungle. She was struggling for work,so she became to pose naked.Prints were even bought by Hugh Hefner. She appeared on the first editon of his new magazine,Playboy. In 1951 the baseball star Joe DiMaggio saw a picture of Monroeand asked the man who arranged the picture to set up a date, after a two-year courtship they eloped and married at San Francisco's City Hall on January 14, 1954.Marilyn obtained a divorce from DiMaggio on the grounds of mental cruelty. On June 29, 1956, Monroe married the playwright Arthur Miller, whom she had first met in 1951, in a civil ceremony. In 1960 their marriage was broken beyond repair,a Mexican divorce was granted. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire, both released in 1953, catapulted Marilyn into A-list status and she quickly became the world's biggest movie star. After her next 2 films weren't quite a success, she began to tire of the "dumb blonde" roles. After completing work on The Seven Year Itch in 1954, she broke her contract and fled Hollywood to study acting.Critics immediately noted a change in marilyn's acting. Before shooting of her last film ,Something's Got to Give, Marilyn was found dead in her Los Angeles home, on the morning of August 5, 1962. Her death, officially found to be suicide by drug overdose, has been the subject of many conspiracy theories, still to this day. Marilyn Monroe was a beautiful, talented woman, who was controlled by the media and it has led to the a death of an amazing star.
