Born Joe Duncan on July 26, 1984, and raised in Duncanville Texas (the woodz), this young man began his life as an all star athlete. After being named one of the top SWAC athletes his freshman year in college (yes the boy was good) he had his mind set on the bigger crowd. Not knowing later on in his prospective pro football career, that was not what life had as a destination on his map as his injuries denied him of a successful landing. “Murk”, alias given to him by the legendary Coach Thomas for his assassination mentality on the football field, had to reroute his trip to success. Seeing as though sports was pretty much out the picture, he began to fall back on his second love which was music. “I couldn’t sing or dance so that was out the picture; and damn sure couldn’t rap, but I wanted to always have complete control over situations as much I can, so I figured; Ay why not be a DJ”. That’s where all started. “After being laughed at, turned down and being critiqued so much by the people that surrounded me, I began to think it wasn’t for me, until I realized that maybe they don’t want me to because I might out shine them or be actually better than them after puttin my grind to it. Later .. sheading the dead skin, I began to listen to myself and created my own formula to the mixtape game and became pretty good. So then I took it to the next level and DJ’d a couple of free house parties for some family members that were trying to hop into the promotion game but had no money to rent out the clubs, but yet still pulled in crowds jus like anyone else; anyways I started out doing gigs free jus to let people hear what I had. Then came all the request from sororities, fraternities, event the school. From there came the clubs and concerts and tours, you know the major events.” After being through all that as the underdog or the over looked kept in the dark, he is here.After being away from his hometown, MIX TAPE MURK has now returned to Dallas Texas to give back to his city. For the past 4 years people were always wondering what happened to him. Well ever since he left, he has been residing in the overly saturated city of talent, Houston Texas; where MIX TAPE MURK has obtained the title of being one of the hottest underground mix tape djs in the game yet. He says, "well after moving down here for a hot minute and seeing how things are done differently than where I was from , and actually seeing people come from someone performing in whole in the wall clubs and handing you there mix tapes personally, to being on BET and magazine covers etc.; I decided to take a lot of the things I learned and experienced and put my own twist of the grind to it and bring it back home and give it to those that are denied by those that are greedy, shady and shysty when it comes to the light. A man open the door for me and gave me a chance; so GOD put it in me to do the same for people that are in the same position that I was in. That’s what my sister would want me to do (R.I.P. Upon returning to Dallas it is said by him that, "im here to take over the underground mixtape market; the area that all these other fake DJs, wanna b’s, and dream sells man are stunnin about, by tellin all these artist that are really tryin to make it in the game, that they will spin there shit, weather it be in the club or on a mixtape, and the famous line "that’s hot, ima put you on". Well, to make a long story short the real is here and that’s I have to say". His 1st mixtape ’U Heard me Vol.1 sold over 45 thousand units underground from Texas towards the west coast.
