About Me

..

I am one of those folks who lives maybe a half-step diagonally from everyone else. You know the type: always has to do things his own way, never picks the easy route, laughs in the face of "should do". Stubborn to a fault, but just clever enough to get away with it. Never shy about voicing his opinions.

I love to meet new people, and I'm usually able to find common ground with almost anyone, but I rarely feel as if I'm ever truly a part of any group. Those who know and love me will tell you I remind them of a brother/lover/roommate/cousin/etc, but in the same breath they'll say they've never met anyone quite like me.

I am fascinated by, well, just about everything. (An exaggeration, but it sure feels like that sometimes.) Right now, I'm immersed in blacksmithing, pre-Christian theology/Goddess mythology, Photoshop, and sculpture. Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. Head is your choice.

My Interests

I'm into a little bit of just about everything. That said, here are a few things that currently get me all hot and bothered: sculpture, guerrilla cooking, blacksmithing, peoplewatching, writing, reading, teaching, obscure and useless trivia, animals of all sorts (especially anything canis-related), Photoshop, energy work, massage, body mods, theology/mythology, psychology, technology, and the SCA.

I'm also a natural-born Devil's advocate. When presented with a willing conversation partner, I will discuss/debate/argue ANYTHING with anyone. I'm especially drawn to topics typically avoided (with good reason) by more sane individuals, and I love few things more than to get into a passionate discussion with people who really have something to say.

Get Your Monster Name

I'd like to meet:

Intelligent, interesting, off-kilter, geeky, wonderful, eclectic, aware, incendiary, fantastic, sensual, easygoing, visceral, ingenious, powerful, amusing, active, lyrical, talented, kind, mystical, and/or magnificent people.

I've become a little jaded with humanity's ability to love, lately. I'm not sure what it is that keeps us all at arm's length from each other and uncomfortable with intimacy, but I for one deny this trend wholeheartedly. If you have serious intimacy issues, don't bother trying to get to know me. Your armor won't help, your isolation won't last, and your comfortable stasis will be shaken. In fact, I tend to shake people's stable datums without even realizing what I've done. You've been warned.

Music:

I'm a true believer in that old cliche "Music is the soundtrack for your life." I'm constantly discovering new musical interests and exploring them with blissful abandon. Here again, I like a little of just about everything. In my opinion, one should never be ashamed of singing along to a favorite song, and if you can get others to sing with you at the top of their lungs, I salute you!

Have you tried the Anima Sound System? It's fresh, today:

If you do know and love any of the following, I want to hear from you: System of a Down, TchKung!, Crash Worship, Dead Can Dance, Tom Waits, Gorillaz, Portishead, Paul Simon, Ali Farka Touré, Dimmu Borgir, Ten Masked Men, Iron Horse, Apocalyptica, Skinny Puppy, Barry Adamson, The Herbaliser, Fey Rey, Alabama 3, Jack Johnson, Ozomatli, Control Machete, Soulfly, Django Reinhardt, The Chieftans, Potatoe Famine, Nina Simone, The Mars Volta, Tool, Toots and the Maytals, Ben Harper, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, DJ Shadow, Yat-Kha, Anima Sound System.

I seem to have fallen in with a den of nefarious musicians, of late. If you're anywhere near Humboldt County and you like a bit'o live music, check out The Bump Foundation and Moo-Got-2 - they frikkin' RAWK. Well - there's some funk involved, and a whole lotta groove, and maybe a good dose of... whatever, but rest assured they will fill your head with goodness and remind you what your ears are good for.

Movies:

I'll hit the directors first, along with their films I like most:
Ridley Scott ("The Duellists", "Alien", "Blade Runner", "Legend", "Gladiator", "Black Hawk Down", "Kingdom of Heaven")
Luc Besson ("La Femme Nikita", "The Professional", "The Fifth Element", "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc")
Marc Caro & Jean-Pierre Jeunet ("Delicatessen", "City of Lost Children", "Alien: Resurrection")
Terry Gilliam ("Monty Python and the Holy Grail", "Jabberwocky", "Time Bandits", "The Meaning of Life", "Brazil", "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen", "Twelve Monkeys", "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas")
Tim Burton ("Vincent", "Pee-wee's Big Adventure", "Beetle Juice", "Edward Scissorhands", "The Nightmare Before Christmas" [producer/writer], "James and the Giant Peach" [producer], "Mars Attacks!", "Sleepy Hollow", "Planet of the Apes", "Big Fish", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "Corpse Bride")
Some random films I love (by no means a comprehensive list):
"Mad Max: The Road Warrior", "Amélie", "Dog Soldiers", "Night Watch", "City of Angels", "Princess Bride", "Erik the Viking", "What Dreams May Come", "The Gods Must Be Crazy", "Animals Are Beautiful People", "Saving Private Ryan", "Cemetary Man", "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra", "Hudson Hawk", "Man Bites Dog", "Unleashed", "Dead Man", "Akira", "Totari no Totoro", "Spirited Away", "The Story of Ricky"
Yes, I watch movies. Many, many movies. Movies goood.Oh, and I really, really, really dislike David Lynch's films. I have a fondness for a few of the lines from some of his flicks, and I recognize his skill, but I just. Don't. Like. His movies. In fact, the only one of his films I _do_ like is the one he went to court to have his name stricken from: "Dune".
