OK, so you're reading this, so I have to write something ........... I play keyboards. Well more accurately piano as that's the instrument I'm happiest with. I took piano lessons as a kid, not because I was forced to but because I wanted to - weird, huh?
I play keyboards for Kevin Montgomery whose music I'm also a fan of, and was before I ever played with him. We've performed quite a few acoustic gigs together and I've also had the pleasure of being part of the Road Trippers, his full band.
"Broken", the track you're probably listening to right now, was part of my first ever encounter with the band. Picture this - they're on tour and Kevin's asked me to come up and perform a couple of numbers at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow. I've never met these guys before and they're like ...... well known. Paul Deakin and Robert Reynolds from The Mavericks ; Al Perkins who's played with everyone from The Stones to Bob Dylan; Mike Mcadam , one of Steve Earle's original Dukes and sideman for Mary-Chapin Carpenter; Kevin and ...................... oh yeah, me. And they're recording the gig for a live CD ... no pressure then!
Against that background I played as I did - not particularly proud of it but I got through it and it made the album :-). For the keyboard techs I was using a Roland JV1080 midi'ed to a Studiologic controller at that time - the piano doesn't sound pretty however I now use a Yamaha S90 which is much sweeter.
