There has been no greater influence and personification of Mid West Street influenced music then Chilly Igloo and Abso! a.k.a. Genetix. They have emerged to redefine and raise the bar on the cookie cutter approach that has become the staple of commercial rap music.Over the years, the impact from Chicago artists have been few and far In between. The recent success of Twista and Kanye West has established a demand for the Midwest sound, with its infusion of all genres of music. Still Starvin Records brings an uncharted aspect of Chicago's Avenues and Alleyways to the forefront.ABSO! Productions provided most of the backdrop for their debut album BIRTHRITE. With a more versatile approach, Chilly Igloo & ABSO! earned all of the anticipation and mystic that surrounds them. Their ultimate goal is to give the listeners different angles of street music. Keeping their faces in the right places earned them the WGCI Hood Award Best Local Artist nomination for 2004. They have landed the coveted opening act slot with everyone from OutKast, Goodie Mob, Twista, Rakim & Ja Rule. Only time will tell how the masses will react to such a dynamic offering.History: The creation of Genetix is a culmination of events that started in the early 90s. Both ABSO! (K.Johnson) and the Chilly Igloo (D.Johnson) were raised in the heart of Chicago's south side, in the notorious Roseland area later known as the Wild Hundeds These first cousins grew and developed a curiosity for the Chicago underworld. At the same time a mutual love for the new form of music called Rap was budding. With the emerging genre ascending at such a rapid rate, with groups like The D.O.C.,N.W.A., Kool G. Rap, these young men had finally found a voice that spoke of the festering madness and poverty surrounding them.Chilly Igloo Every team must have a mastermind. This teams is definitely Chilly. As co-founder of Genetix and CEO of Still Starvin' Records, he is the go to man and organizational guru of most of SS Records endeavors. As an artist, Igloo brings a fresh sense of clarity to music that has been slowly deteriorating over the years. His brilliant lyricism is displayed throughout the album, as well as his ability to pull the listener directly into his world. With the determination of a young Russell Simmons, and backed by a solid foundation, success is immanent for not only this groundbreaking group, but also the burgeoning label.ABSO! This self-made musician, is every artists dream, and every producers nightmare! As Genetix was trying to find a sound early in their careers, this man was the beacon of light in the darkness. The group was struggling with creative differences with several producers, and eventually severed ties with most of them. They were seeking a production relationship that was similar to Dr.Dre and N.W.A. or Organized Noise and Outkast; A production team that embodied the particular group. In 2003, feeling that his skills were ready to be displayed to the public, ABSO! established ABSO! Productions.Still Starvin RecordsIn 2005 a collective effort was made by D.Johnson & K.Johnson to help the up and coming artists that were trying to establish themselves. This effort was manifested in the form of Still Starvin Records. The initial idea was to give these artists a chance to bypass some of the trials and pitfalls that Genetix went through. These men understood what it was like trying to get on. The opportunity presented itself, and was seized. Self made and self contained SS Records, thrives on the mantra: No amount is ever enough They pride themselves on having no weak links in the chain. Brown (Producer).With great talent comes great expectations, and there is so much anticipation from the public on the Still Starvin family. From what was experienced in spending time with this organization, I dont think the masses will be disappointed at all. The writing is on the wall: Still Starvin Records/Entertainment will give that first glimpse into masterful midwest Street Hip Hop. After meeting and vibing with this talented company, I can now imagine the before stardom Rockafella, as well as, the early stages of Bad Boy. Knowing is half the battle. These artists understand that they are of the unfamilar but they challenge all listeners to learn. Hey, CHI-TOWN, the sky ain't a ceiling at all.
