About Me

PROFESSIONAL BASSIST, SONGWRITER & PRODUCER AVAILABLE FOR LIVE WORK, SESSIONS & MUSIC PRODUCTION.
Stan Stammers is not only a professional bassist, but an accomplished songwriter and producer too. His wealth of music and bass playing experience covers some 28 years and 7 bands. Stan was born on May 19th 1961, and grew up in Saffron Walden in England, where he went to Saffron Walden County High School. Stan's main influence for playing the bass is Slade's bassist Jimmy Lea, he also cites Paul Simonon, Bruce Foxton and Horace Panter as influences too!
The first major band that Stan joined was The Straps, followed by legendary UK Post Punk/Rock band's Theatre of Hate and Spear Of Destiny, both formed by Kirk Brandon and Stan Stammers. Stan had turned down an offer by Charlie Harper to join punk band UK Subs to be in ToH. In the two turbulent years that ToH was going they spurned a number of singles and albums, most notably the infamous 'Legion' the b-side to the first single 'Original Sin', third single 'Nero' and it's b-side 'Incinerator', '63', the legendary 'Westworld' LP produced by Mick Jones of The Clash, the 'Westworld' single which went into No. 40 of the UK charts qualifying the band to an appearence on Top of the Pops, it's b-side 'Propaganda' and 'The Hop' single. Billy Duffy the bands second guitarist went on to form legendary band The Cult with Ian Astbury from Southern Death Cult. Theatre of Hate's premature demise took place at the end of 1982, after Kirk took the decision to fold the band, leaving behind a huge legacy! In January 1983 Spear of Destiny was formed and was promptly signed up by CBS Records. SOD mark two consisted of Dolphin Taylor (ex. Stiff Little Fingers) on drums, John 'Boy' Leonard (formerly with Theatre of Hate) on sax, later being replaced by Neil Pyzer ..boards and tenor sax, and Mickey Donnelly on alto sax. From 1983 until 1986 Spear of Destiny released three albums, 'Grapes of Wrath' named after the classic film starring Henry Fonda, 'One Eyed Jacks' (touted by some as the best SOD album), and 'World Service. The most notable singles to be released by the band were the first single 'The Wheel', the infamous 'Liberator' which has become a classic on the live circuit to this day, and 'Come Back'. Other notable songs which were popular with the fans were, 'Rainmaker', 'Young Men', 'Rocket Ship', 'I Can See', 'Mickey' (being the most popular song live to-date), 'Once In Her Lifetime', 'Land of Shame' and Garry Glitter's classic 'I Didn't Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock 'n' Roll)'. Early 1986 saw the band return to the studio to record a new studio album which was fraught by problems with their record label. In March '86 CBS decided to drop the band and released a brief statement in the music press. The same month Kirk decided disbanded Spear of Destiny mark two, offering Stan to stay, but Stan decided it was time to start his own band with some new ideas he had.
Crazy Pink Revolvers formed in early '86 after Stan met Adam Bolton a guitarist at the Town and Country Club in London. From January '87 until March 1989 Crazy Pink Revolvers Released two albums an EP and a single, 'First Down', 'Timeless Smile EP', 'At The River's Edge' and 'Wednesday 19:45' which was written about the Kings Cross fire on the London Underground in 1988. In March '89 Stan decided to leave the band and after a few months left London with his American girlfriend Lisa to live in Philadelphia.
Stan arrived in Philly in September 1989 and shortly after formed Boy Boy Nova an indie pop band. The band occaisionally got together for rehearsals and wrote some catchy tunes. Over a two year period between 1990 and 1992 the band played various gigs in Philly and NYC. Over the two year period with Boy Boy Nova, the band only recorded a few demo's and unfortunately never released any material, the band mutually folded in 1992. 1990 saw Stan reunited again with Kirk Brandon on the Spear Of Destiny reunion, playing three sell out nights at the famous Marquee club in London and a year later a Theatre of Hate reunion tour. In 1992 Spear Of Destiny got together again to record and release the 'SOD's Law' album, as well as to tour the UK. Kirk move to Philly in early '93 and with Stan resurrected Theatre of Hate but with a new local band. ToH played regularly in Philly and NYC over a two year period until the end of 1994. During this period Stan was managing Babylon Sounds studios, and produced the demos for the new album. In August '94 the band went into Mix O.Lydian Studio in Boonton NJ, to record the new album 'Stone In The Rain' under the new band name 10:51, with Brad Morrison who was brought in to produce it. Toward the end of 1994 Stan took the decision to leave the band and move in a completely different musical direction. The album eventually got released in the UK in early '95 under the name Kirk Brandon's 10:51, and was later released in the States in 1996 under the Theatre of Hate banner.
Plastic Eaters were formed in Philadelphia in early 1996 as a creative venture between Stan and vocalist Rob Daly. James Atkin the lead singer from EMF and an old friend of Stan's was originally approached to sing for the band, but unfortunately it didn't transpire. While some called their sound "old school punk with modern techno flourishes" and others referred to it as simply "jungle-punk", Plastic Eaters were more appropriately identified as a hybrid punk rock band. The band regularly used samples, loops and even DJ's to enhance their popular sound. Between 1996 and 2004 the Eater's regularly played throughout Philly, NYC and New Jersey, with the occasional detour to LA. Not satisfied with recording, producing and releasing their own material they also recorded, produced and re-mixed other artists too. Plastic Eaters were also known for their 35mm short film ".357-11" which quickly earned the band a grass-roots cult following, as bootleg copies found their way into the VCRs and DVD players of skateboarders, tattoo artists, and tour buses. Written and directed by Robdaly, the film stars Robdaly, Stan Stammers and Sean Money in acting roles and features wall to wall Plastic Eaters' music. The short has been screened at film festivals ranging from Tromadance and The LA International Short Film Festival, to The NY International Film Festival. From 1996 through to 2000 Stan also managed Philadelphia's Sonic Studio (known for their Y-100 Sonic Sessions) and kept his hands (and ears) and production skills involved with many bands of all genres and levels.
Stan did join legendary Philly Hip Hop band The Goats, but after a number of rehearsals and hopes of a reunion, the project didn't get off the ground!!
Stan & Rob are currently working together again as Plastic Eaters, as a production team and songwriters on new songs and remixes for other artists.
