A life of purposeful irony for your amusement

About Me

I'm the middle child. I get the medium-sized value meal at Burger King. I drive in the middle lane of the highway. My brain hemisphere preference is somewhere in the middle, leaning to one side or the other, depending on the test. I was born on the Vernal Equinox, so I'm on the cusp between Virgo and Libra. I don't ever fully identify myself with one group because there's always something that causes me to fall in the middle. Because of that, I have a lot of interests. Everytime I learn something new, I recompile my source code.

My Interests

Reading, writing, watching movies, politics, philosophy, russian roulette

I'd like to meet:

I want to be famous just so I can hang out with talented famous people. Here's an incomplete list: Kurt Vonnegut, Spike Jonz, Charlie Kaufman, Chuck Palahniuk, David Fincher, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken....and so many more.

Music:

Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Perfect Circle, Les Claypool, System of a Down, Radiohead, NIN, Beck

Movies:

Fight Club, Seven, Crouching Tiger, just about anything with Jet Lee, Stephen Chow movies, martial arts flicks, Tim Burton movies where he does it in his style, but not that Planet of the Apes shit, the original 3 Star Wars, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malcovich, really anything written by Charlie Kaufman, Kevin Smith stuff, Memento, The Prestige, Snatch, Boondock Saints...I could keep going, but I think this is sufficient.

Television:

I don't watch much TV anymore, but I love Family Guy, The Simpsons, American Dad, Upright Citizens Brigade, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Heroes, Dexter (I meant the Showtime one, but the cartoon is awesome too), Adult Swim, Venture Brothers, Robot Chicken (and its kickass Les Claypool theme song) and I'm sure a few other things that I can't think of right now.

Books:

Everything by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club or Survivor being my favorite, not sure which) or Kurt Vonnegut, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Brave New World (I'm noticing a trend of novels of the dystopian future here), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Amerian Gods. I read voraciously, so there's plenty more that I'm not thinking of.

Heroes:

Batman

My Blog

Manga Batman will cut your face off!

Little teaser I found for Batman: Death Mask.  Looks pretty badass.  Click the picture to see more.  I actually like the narrative art better than this cover....

Super Tuesday

Do you guys remember the 90s?  Remember how awesome they were?  The music, the movies, the President.  It was a glorious wonderland where we didn't have to think or care about anything ...

The Metaphor Machine

Metaphors and similes are the building blocks of good writing, in my opinion. They allow the writer to turn the camera around, Matrix-style, and allow the reader to see an idea from a different angle....

Spiral Out. Keep going.

I've known about this for a while, but then just now stumbled onto a video someone made demonstrating the Fibonacci Sequence in the Tool song Lateralus.  I always liked this little bit of trivia ...

Um...I dont want to be your friend

Like most guys on MySpace, I regularly receive friend request from Fembots pretending to be females.  Usually, it's a "I'm new in town and I'm fun and down to earth and I like puppies" kinda shit...

Noticing something again for the first time

I went outside to have a cigarette and saw a pretty tree.  I thought to myself, "I wish I had a camera so I could take a picture of that."  I puffed on the cigarette a few more times and wat...

The Orphanage

Think about the scariest movies you've ever seen.  What made them scary?  Now don't fall into the Saw or Hostel bullshit way of thinking where scary = gory.  'Cause they aren't equivale...

Cut that shit out

I posted this a while ago on my LiveJournal page and realized I didn't put it here.  Enjoy.  Or not.  I once went into the Midtown Arts Cinema bathroom and saw a sticker on the paper to...
