Hey, I got nothin' to do today but smile

About Me

My name is Jo, and I'm a laugh-a-holic. I'm a new mom who is trying to figure out how to juggle everything without dropping my sanity. I can't believe that my little girl is TWO years old. I don't get out much, but when I do I enjoy the library and the park and thrift stores. I love to find things on sale--especially baby things (can you believe people pay so much for that stuff?). I have a great partner who helps me laugh and reminds me that life is a journey. He and I are completely goofy. I try to remember every day to be grateful for every moment, and to try to be present and stay in the present. UPDATE: I bartend at Tantra on Thursday nights now, and I have a LOT of fun. The hours are crazy, but it's great and I'm learning. Also, look for a more energetic me coming soon. I've been soooo tired lately, so we joined the gym. Right now I'm in serious pain, but I hear that it will be great for my energy level down the road. Here's hoping. Meanwhile, my walk really does look like the thriller dance.

My Interests

Sometimes I feel like a little kid because I have lots of science questions that people laugh at--like where do fireflies go during the winter? I'm also interested in spirituality. I've been reading a lot of Kahlil Gibran lately, and really dig the core principals he talks about. I love to hear people talk about their beliefs and theories on life, love, god, and the universe. As far as my own views on God and the universe go...well, they are up in the air right now. I also love the outdoors (minus the biting bugs).

I'd like to meet:

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !

Music:

I'd like to find some new music, so if you have anything you think I would like, please send it to me. I like songs that make me feel--I'm in love with old jazz/blues (especially the lady singers). We even named our daughter after two awesome blues singers. My shameful love is 80's music. Really cheezy 80's music. What can I say? Those times were good. I used to be out in the bar scene and heard some local bands that I love, but haven't found anything that strikes me in a while (I don't go out anymore). My great loves are Radiohead, Portishead, David Bowie, Patti Griffin, Jack Johnson, Death Cab for Cutie, Nina Simone, Etta James, Ben Harper, Ray Charles, The White Stripes, Ben Folds, and Huey Lewis (haha).

Movies:

I like indie films. If you like them too, you should check out Birmingham's Sidewalk Film Festival. It usually happens the last week of September, and should not be missed. They always need volunteers, and it's a blast. You get to meet really interesting people and see movies for free. What's not to love? My favorite movies include Love Acutally, Amilee, Garden State, Velvet Goldmine, Office Space, Human Traffic, Event Horizon, The Nightmare Before Christmas, etc, etc, etc....

Television:

Ah. I must confess that I love Law & Order (all of them). I also like those home-improvement shows, and wish someone would nominate me for Extreme Home Makeover. I also like Desperate Housewives, but have only seen the first season. I like Lost, House, and the Price is Right. Lately I've been watching too much Teletubies, Barney, and It's a Big,Big,World. Damn those theme songs! They always get stuck in my head. I work in a nightclub that plays dance/hip-hop music and I walk around humming the theme to Dora the Explorer. If the Smurfs still came on I would watch them too. I think Adult Swim is funny, but we have no cable. I heart PBS.

Books:

I love the library. Did you know that you can go online and request any book and they have it ready for you to pick up where ever you want within a few days? That's amazing. I just finished Heart Shaped Box, by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son). It was a page-turner.

Heroes:
