"SOME MEMORIES DON'T FADE"Betty Salisbury Parham was born in New Orleans, LA and moved to Slidell, LA in 1977, where she raised a family and continues to reside.
Pepper Parham Nunez, Betty’s daughter, was born in New Orleans, LA. She currently resides in Slidell, LA with her husband and two children.Using her portable electric typewriter, Betty began writing the novel "Some Memories Don't Fade" in 1967 while working for a law firm in New Orleans, Louisiana. For reasons unknown, she never finished it and stored the partially written novel in a chest that would sit out in her garage for the next 30 years. In 1997, Pepper found the unfinished manuscript, read it and asked her mom how it ended. Never finishing the story, Betty answered, "I don't know. Why don't you finish it and tell me." So, Pepper sat down at her computer and first typed what her mom had already written from the old browned pages of the original unfinished manuscript. Then using Betty's notes from 1967, set out to complete the manuscript. When the book was completed, and now Pepper was satisified knowing how the story ends and like Betty, she stored the manuscript in a box on the top shelf of her closet. While cleaning her closet, Pepper discovered the box in August of 2005. Deciding that this poor manuscript had been stored in one place or another for now 38 years, it was time to try and find a publisher. After searching on the internet, she came across the publisher, Publish America. She sent them a submission and waited to see what they would say. In late August of 2005, Publish America requested the manuscript to review.Unfortunately, a terrible hurricane named Katrina hit Betty and Pepper's hometown of Slidell, Louisiana on August 29, 2005. They evacuated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, then to Natchitoches, Louisiana and finally were able to return home in late September of 2005.They were relieved to find their homes intact with only minor damage, unlike many of their friends and family in the town. After getting back into a somewhat normal routine, Pepper was finally able to send Publish America their complete manuscript. Which, of course, Publish America decided to publish. So now, after 38 years, the rest of the world can see how "Some Memories Don't Fade" ends.OUR FIRST BOOK REVIEW!BETTY --- I finished your book and thoroughly enjoyed it!! I found myself getting all involved in the day to day dealings with Susan's office, as well as her feelings when she took her first job in a law office. Even though I have worked in the legal profession for well over 30 years, I also recall that feeling of being completely lost the first few days of working in a law office -- like those guys are something "special". ha ha (How soon we learn though) And those days before computers - typewriters and having to use carbon paper! And the fact that it was set in New Orleans made it even better. As others have said, you could really feel as if you were right there in the City. Often I felt as if I personally knew the characters.Thank you for a wonderful reading experience and I hope to see more books in the future. If so, count me in on your "faithful reader" group. --CINDY

"Some Memories Don't Fade"Memories of long ago, memories that don’t fade through time… Susan, now a middle aged woman, returns to the soon to be demolished office building in downtown New Orleans where she worked thirty years before. In her mind, Susan could still remember all that had happened: It was 1967 and she was hired at the most prestigious law firm in The Big Easy. In two short months her average life had become twisted with those she worked with. Yes, she remembered it just like it happened yesterday. This book was actually started in 1967 by the mother, Betty Salisbury Parham, and finished in 1997 by the daughter, Pepper Parham Nunez. It’s a story of love, laughter, shame, tears, joy and sorrow as Susan revisits old memories and tragedies then finally, after thirty years, brings closure to her memories of long ago, proving to herself that “Some Memories Don’t Fadeâ€.Official release date is February 26, 2007.
