The Tyler Trudeau Attempt

New Haven is where the action is.

About Me

The Tyler Trudeau Attempt is a rock band that believes pop music should try to be art and that art needs to be enjoyable. We're based in New Haven, CT, and we play at clubs, bars, rented halls, coffee houses, art galleries, house parties and wherever else we can comfortably do so.For all inquiries, thoughts, comments and so on, please send us a message or e-mail [email protected] have said:"Tyler Trudeau Attempt, a band that makes pop music the way it should be: with garage-like guitars and quality hooks." -- Pat Ferrucci, New Haven Register"I was reminded of all manner of awesome late punk and new wave bands. The Tyler Trudeau Attempt specialize not only in evoking the sounds of that time, but also the stubborn awkwardness, the difficulty of interpretation. ... You might be able to placate yourself with thoughts that the song structures are at least reasonably poppy — which they are. But then the band comes to a solo, and Trudeau launches into a discordant, Dada-esque destruct-a-thon which, if broadcast, would probably turn every FM receiver into anti-matter. ... Trudeau's musical vision may seem to call upon cultural moments too disparate to make sense — but the thing is, his music makes it gel. His band is just articulate enough to make it seem like they didn't cherry-pick a bunch of unrelated influences. They make it seem like that's just how they rock." -- Dan Barry, Hartford Advocate"Unadulterated, blatant hooky pop with all the aggression of a full-blown punk band but with a steady eye on modern musicality. ... Lyrics that are meaningful and unapologetic. ... It matters not what genre or sub-genre signpost points to the songs of The Tyler Trudeau Attempt, coz these guys are simply in-yer-face popsters with musical messages for the young and impressionable masses. Their style is brash, naive (in the nicest possible way!) and youthfully melodic but tantalisingly teasing -- 'In My Despair, I Took Up Painting' has a beautifully genuine feel about it; the songs are catchy and quite compelling." -- Toxic Pete (UK) "<[i>In My Despair, I Took Up Painting is] an EP brimming with social satire, gleeful punk music, enough organ for a prog band and Trudeau's instantly recognizable whine... The TTA looks back to the roots of punk and finds something immensely energetic, often hilarious and always political. On top of that, it's catchy as hell. -- Tyler Theofilos, New Haven Advocate"At the same time biting, unpredictable and accessible. Front man Trudeau brings a stellar arsenal of guitar lines to the table ... Unexpected directions around every corner." -- Metromix (CT)"I've seen the Tyler Trudeau Attempt many times now and they're always entertaining. It's aggressive pop, or shrill rock, or mild punk, or rhythmic garage, or something like that... If they were too precise, they would lack the urgency that makes them shine. All of the guitar solos sound like he's just about to forget how to play." -- Beware the Hippie Menace"You can't help liking the Tyler Trudeau Attempt's debut disc... It's as if Trudeau and his bandmates want to be stereotypical indie mopes, but they just can't stop giggling... and indulging in chaotic pop rave-ups, but with mournful lyrics about self-worthlessness and weariness." -- Christopher Arnott, New Haven Advocate"That's just clever enough not to cross the line into pretentious eggheadedness. In fact, that's just cool... It's sharply written with an ear toward snappy pop." -- Fran Fried, New Haven Register You can buy mp3s from and physical copies of the current EP, In My Despair, I Took Up Painting, at Discark.
