Myty Konkeror exudes a distinct dissonance in their sound. Their four track EP, The Excluded Middle, has a very punk attitude more than anything else, with some pop elements. I do feel, however, that I could not hear this on the radio - there is too much grit to it. The songs are rather simple, overall, but still have a quality musicianship. The vocals are clean, and sung in a devil-may-care sound and s t y l e. The production is rather stripped down, which gives the music a chance to breathe. The stand out track had to be “Set Design for a Suicide Bomber,” which features a heavy opening and dissonant noises throughout the track. This song has the aspects that make MK very unique. Aural Wes, April 24, 2008:
While maintaining at least 2,000 tons of minimum sludge levels, MK takes a heterodox approach to melting your face like margarine in a uranium-powered microwave. Along with the expected chunky riffage and extended guitar freakout-jamz, the songs incorporate a driving repetition more reminiscent of krautrock or post-punk than anything typically thought of in the "stoner metal" genre. Strong elements of 60's heavy and pop psychedelia give their heady rock potion an even more dreamlike quality, while contrasting nicely with their otherwise overwhelming wash of fuzzed-out guitar.
New Haven Advocate, November 29, 2007
These four tracks crackle and hiss, both figuratively (it's tense, muscular stuff) and literally (the disc swims in treble and overdrive, brittle and electric). MK's grimy scrap-metal post-punk has nearly as much substance as style. The propulsive riffs have clear structure, and repeated listens help unlock the creepy cut-up lyrics and hummable vocal melodies. Challenging and murky, sure, but the murk is a bonus, not a crutch. It'll be fun to hear where MYTY KONKEROR pushes this already compelling template in the future.
