CROOKED BEAK OF HEAVEN

About Me

.
PLEASE VISIT NEW AND SHINEY MUARENAHELENA.COM .
HELLO. WE ARE MUARENA HELENA FROM BETHNAL GREEN. WE ARE FIVE PEOPLE, SOMETIMES LESS. WHEN WE ARE NOT PLAYING MUSIC TOGETHER THE MUSIC WE MAKE IS GENERALLY DIFFERENT. THIS IS THE SOUND OF A PRETTY SCATTERED BUNCH. WE'LL BE PLAYING OUR LOTS AND LOTS OF SONGS OUT AT YOU. THANK YOU. NEW EP IN THE NEW YEAR WE HOPE.
Born from a common love of organ drum beats and thrift store synths, Muarena Helena's distinctively polyphonic sound is made up of eerie melodies and oblique vocal lines hovering over warm gossamer pianos and loose-fitted shaky guitars, and underpinned by a rhythm section that walks in and out like a drunk flatmate and his assortment of classroom instruments.
Their idiosyncratic sound has been likened to Sparks and Blonde Redhead, stopping at Japan and 70's blown-out country; as recently encapsulated in their latest 9 song self-release SCRIMSHAW.

Muarena Helena are:
Rachel Shea – piano and vocals
Joel Shea - guitar and vocals
Andy Hopwood - bass
David Straight - drums
Amy Grain – saxophone and melodica
When she's not playing the Saxophone or Melodica, Amy Grain is our videographer... here's the end of Cal Worthington at the Comedy gig. (Courtesy of the Grainer, thanks pal! xx)

review from Lobster Quadrille

"Often sounding like the soundtrack to some low-budget existential sci-fi movie, Bez Mazuu is sort of the opposite of a curate's egg. Not in the sense that it's consistent, but in the sense that far ...
