HELLO. WE ARE MUARENA HELENA FROM BETHNAL GREEN. WE ARE FIVE PEOPLE, SOMETIMES LESS. WHEN WE ARE NOT PLAYING MUSIC TOGETHER THE MUSIC WE MAKE IS GENERALLY DIFFERENT. Born from a common love of organ drum beats and thrift store synths, Muarena Helena's distinctively polyphonic sound is made up of eerie melodies and oblique vocal lines hovering over warm gossamer pianos and loose-fitted shaky guitars, and underpinned by a rhythm section that walks in and out like a drunk flatmate and his assortment of classroom instruments.
Their idiosyncratic sound has been likened to Sparks and Blonde Redhead, stopping at Japan and 70's blown-out country; as recently encapsulated in their latest 9 song self-release SCRIMSHAW.
