About Me

We are a punk-rockabilly band from Alameda, California. Guitarist Pete Rypins is already well-known for his bass-playing in Crimpshrine and Tilt, which included supporting Green Day on their major-label debut tour. Musically, we are a combination of punk, rockabilly, blues, country, rhythm and blues, early soul, surf.....music we listen to and love.
Our self-produced "Big Dress" 7-inch was engineered by Billie Joe Armstrong for Jesse Lucious' Zafio Records. It sold out the first and only pressing. We then recorded "Motels", a six-song e.p. at Nu-Tone Studios for Cheetah's Records. The CD and 10" vinyl came out in 2000, and garnered rave reviews in the press, as well as world-wide college radio airplay.
In 2001, The Tantrums went on tour with The Beautys and The Pre-Teens to Southern California, Nevada, Utah, Montana, and Washington, and Northern California.
In 2002 we had some very successful shows with Tiger Army at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana and the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma.
In 2004 we recorded three brand-new songs at the Nu-Tone. The feedback we have received is extremely positive.
In October of 2005 we returned to Nu-Tone Studios to record five songs. Check back often--some of them will be posted here in the coming months.
Some of the great bands we have played with over the years: The John Doe Thing, Demented Are Go, Tiger Army, One Man Army, the Swingin' Utters, Pinhead Gunpowder, Tilt, Gas Huffer, the Hi-Fives, Rockin' Lloyd Tripp and the Zipguns, The Mutilators, Cari Lee and the Saddle-ites, Mr. T Experience, the Beautys, Screw 32, Scissorhands, The Struts, 99 Tales, The Criminals, The Parasites, Good Riddance, The Phenomenauts, Visqueen, The Rocketz, 1/4 Mile Combo...

"Alameda's Tantrums may come out of the punk scene, but their driving, shadowy rockabilly has a grasshopper jump to it that would be hard to resist at any sock hop." - Sam Hurwitt, the East Bay Express
"This female-fronted four-piece plays a mix of country, rockabilly and punk. The female vocals are powerful and fit the music perfectly. Loaded with melodies and swingin' dance-floor tempos, this is toe-tappin' fun." - Impact Press
"Your music is refreshing. It's got a great mix of edge and a satisfying melody. I enjoy your style. Vocals are great. Melody is great. Not sure who you sound like, i think you're original enough. Thank you for keeping hope alive, I thought that rock n' roll was lost forever." - ridge13
