Interests. I can list a few. My first love being music.. fond memories of me at 6 years old trying to compile my Duran Duran, Bucks Fizz, Dollar, Bob Marley, and Sesame Street and Chipmunks tape - not tapes. Not very street, yeah. But that's how it was. I had interests.Lyrical prose has always been an interest for me, play on words. The clever stories and word patterns I read by poets and lyricists, past and present. I've written poetry since a young age, one of them Omarose and Aamir made into a spoken word song which was a welcome suprise. Much love to them.I loved growing up in the eighties. Had no siblings, but had the honour to know my cousins. The first play buddy. Born on an April day in 1980. Joe. We conquered so many... conquests. Our chariot the 'Cortina' driven through many dangerous 80's type cape clad encounters by the ever loved Gordon (whose hairstyle is now legendary as 'The Gordon').. We became Atari Gods, Asteroids never held us back, masters of green wool (another story), He-Man did defeat Skeletor with his wind-back arms and we made sure that the Thundercats were on the move. In February 1984, we were intrigued with anticipation discover a new companion would be joining us. Rebecca was born. Suspicious of this new arrival. We decided to out her through an.. initiation. Since I wasn't always in TW5, Joe decided the the early 90's was the perfect time to begin this properly for the young sibling. After much baggy coloured jean wearing - back to front of course please note, caps (backwards also) and generally dressing like a dude whilst making our own TLC dance moves, and yeah we hung tough better than NKOTB. We made our own mixtapes featuring mixes by The Boyz and probably the Big L's of the time, mixed with Joe's artful description of "the triumph of SNES to the meager megadrive." We decided we loved Mario 3, but in contrast to Megaman?.. Joe gave me a look and I knew it was futile. The game began again and Bex said "can I play now??" It was then we decided it was time. She had proved herself in more ways than jumping from mushroom to mushroom, kicking turtles shells and collecting stars. We felt we were ready. The renegades.. Redwood estate, Woking, south London, Chiswick and Holland.. were never the same. Joe, Tmar & Becks in 1993
Now in the current day. Becks aka Omarose, is between London and Leeds at the uni of music, Joe has a myspage page he's abstaining from since we created it for him, and I still love London..amongst other things and if you know me you'd know some. If you don't you'll find out.
An eclectic mix. I clearly remember doing 'the dance' to Dr Hook - c'mon guys, you all had one. The dance that older family members would make you do to as a distraction from waning conversation. Oh and wherever she is now, I bless my mother for taking me to a disco when I was about 5. I clearly remember being in the centre of many gold and silver shoes with 'Brown Girl in the Ring' blaring from the direction of a DJ with too much hair. So, who remembers Soul Train? Soul Train for me was the original music show. Bless Don Cornelius for that. My original music tastes probably stemmed from that - oh and of course the orignal hiphop movement of the eighties. Again, a reference to me being aged about 6, living in SW6, I used to walk to school on my jays, sometimes accompanied by one of my oldest friends Kazar (R.I.P friend). A year older than me, he introduced me to some of his friends. The older boys and girls that used to hang after school, breaking, popping and locking, those huge ghetto blasters blaring TommyBoy beats, it was facinating to me to grow into my developing music taste. Fresh - (which reminds me - Kool & The Gang were and still are a nostalgic favourite) - and exciting. I grew to adore Stevie, Ray Charles, Miles Davies, Diana Ross, Luther, Chaka Khan, Evelyn King, Marvin, Ashford & Simpson ahh Ashford & Simpson they were solid. Naughty by Nature, De La Soul, Big L, NWA.. Michael Jackson..! I won't rant on, but there are more. Forward into the nineties with TLC, I discovered Mary J's voice, Mos Def and Medina Green. Tupac and Biggie, do have to be mentioned. I stood back and listened to Rage Against the Machine, but didn't appreciate till more recently, I skipped over a whole lot but not gonna list my entire listening spectrum cos it spans far. I'm open to all genres like many people with a love for music. So let's bring it round to today (well the adult years anyhow) I began to love those rock bottom blues - Muddy Waters, oh yeah. Taskforce, Skinnyman, Ty, Dilla (past and present), Foreign Beggars, MC Mello, Big Pun, Nas, Toni, Bob Seger, Wu-Tang, No Doubt, Pharaoh Monch, Common, Pro Green, Little Brother, Eminem, The Rippah-InspektARhyme-Pact R-I-P, Smokescreen, Plan B, Razorlight, Killers, Kano, Sway, Jean Grae, Saigon, Beat Butcha, Chemo you're incredible, I love the energy of Jonzi D, also my talented friend Kobi who first introduced me to Deal Real. Speakerscorner has become almost essential, Manage, Skandal, Jai and Diva Spark, CLG, Conflix, CC Militia, Rhyme Asylum, basically everyone in SIN army(!) A.M.S - along with video production his music is on point too. Lowkey, Logic, Poisonous Poets, 2XPLICIT / I.AM.ILL..Oh and Woking - Hitman, DJ Filthy Rich, Youngblood Da Menace and Executioner..you're pressing hard and never fail to amaze me. Some of you I don't need to detail how I appreciate what you do cos we give each other time.
