About Me

John McCONNACHIE began musical life in 1994 with The Anthill Mob often described as a blend of REM and Travis; They began life as a group of Buskers who would play anywhere for a free drink...which soon built up their fan base. Their dedication as a live act saw them play over 100 gigs (including Glastonbury!) in 1996, despite all still having day jobs. The same year saw their self-financed album, "5 Past 9 At The Diner", being released. This was a massive local hit and contained the unforgettable, "Plastic Restaurant" By 1998, the band's description had changed slightly from "street folk" to "heavy folk", with their second production from the studio, "Smalltown". This prompted Glastonbury to call them back once again for a repeat performance. This was referred to as the festival of mud!( If you went, you'll know why) By 1998, the band's description had changed slightly from "street folk" to "heavy folk", with their second production from the studio, "Smalltown". This was referred to as the festival of mud!( If you went, you'll know why) By 2000, their third recording, "Monday Morning" was released with a power pop feel and as well as the title track, contains banging favourite tune," Summertime" This was documented in that summer with a LIVE BBC Radio broadcast in Wales. Christmas 2004 and the band complete their 5th CD. A full length album entitled SO THERE, SO FAR, SO LONG. Produced by Chris Macdonagh of Darling buds fame, and described as their best yet.2005/6 saw a new twist in the road for The Anthill Mob with the addition of Cathy Barclay on Piano/Keyboards and Tim Washbourne once again returning to the drum skins and bringing his famous washbourne grunge rhythm to the Mix!John still plays with the Anthill Mob but now also is looking towards playing solo more often.....................object width="425" height="344" ..
