About Me
The band Torment Of Sin was formely known as "Nero." This name was changed as a group decision, and was openly accepted among them. In the beginning, the band had three founding members: Jarrod Watson on Guitar/Vocals, Doug Callahan on Bass, and Jesse Holden on Drums. They created the band Nero, as a Grunge/Hard Rock act. Soon after, Robert Winkleman joined, as a second Guitarist, and the group aimed for a heavier sound. They were more of a Hard Rock or Metal band now. Next, soon after Robert joined, Allen Phillips joined, as a Keyboardist, and also to play some small special Percussion parts. So as Nero got ready to begin practice and maybe some recording, a new member wanted to join. His name was Carl Shahan, and he wanted to be the third Guitarist. He was accepted and was a part of TOS in 2006, but he never attended any major practices. Although he was a talented Guitar player, three Guitars were just too many for Nero. So as a group decision, Carl was out of the band. Carl and the rest of the members still remain friends, and Carl has later went on to front his own Alernative Rock band.
Right before Carl left the band, Nero's name was changed to "Torment Of Sin," or "TOS" for short. The name was thought up by Jarrod. It was quickly approved by the rest of the band. Things were slow. They seemed to be going nowhere. Each member practiced a lot, and got better equipment, but no actual full songs were formed. The morale was low. One day, Jarrod and Jesse came up with a song. It was more of an intro song, only being around a minute long. It only featured Jesse on Drums, and Jarrod Guitar. They thought it wasn't anything special. As the group still struggled, a new face appeared. His name was Ricky Lewis, a Vocalist, and a Guitar player. He knew a lot about music, and its theory, and had been in previous bands. He asked to join, for he saw potential, and the group granted his wish. For Torment Of Sin he only would preform Vocals, and not play Guitar. From the time he joined things got better. Morale rose, and steady practices began. Ricky had great motivation, and shortly after, Jarrod and Jesse joined him and got everyone going. Practices were held at Jesse's house. Things seemed better. The old intro named "Shitbreed" that Jarrod and Jesse had created before, was brought back, and played again. Next, two practice songs were developed, "Laid To Waste," and "Eat A Benal." They were recorded, but only for practice purposes. On these two practice tracks, Robert never played on them, but was present for some of there practices. He was later let go from the band, as a mutual decision. The reasons being he was a busy person, and can't always attend regular practices. Also, his musical influences differ from the other band members. Robert is a great Guitarist, and the band wishes him the best of luck with wherever his musical career takes him. The band and Robert still remain close friends. And they all know there is the possability of a TOS & Robert reunion. Next, TOS wrote and a recorded a new trackm which was a 44 second long "intro" track. The temporary lyrics were written by Allen, and were on a humorous topic: Doughnuts. Jesse, Allen, and Jarrod recorded this, with Ricky on a leave of absence for a week. The song is just a Demo, and not meant to be taken seriously. Soon after, the band made another decision. Allen moved from his Keyboard position, to take up playing the Guitar as well as Jarrod. Jarrod will play most of the Lead Guitar parts, but also will contribute some Rhythm parts to go along with Allen's Rhythm Guitar. Jarrod will also be helping Allen on the side, so in the future they can play some Duel Leads, or Harmonize some Leads. Torment Of Sin are in the process of recording some full-length tracks, and later a full-length album. But with the explosive Lead Guitar work of Jarrod, along with his and Allen's chugging Rhythm, the thunderous rumblings of Doug's Bass, the lightening fast, yet technical Drum work by Jesse, and Ricky's low growling vocals, all the way to his high-pitched hellish shriek, and to his pure scream, along with Jarrod's backup vocals, including melody, this band is sure to rise. Stay tuned for more information.
An interview by Ricky from Metal Hammer:
"What do you believe the band has become so far?"
"Well, at first, I had begun to consider Torment of Sin to be that immature thing you used to do to piss off your parents as a child. Now, we are a band that is having a blast ripping on everything and anyone they come in contact with while writing some of most killer metal you will hear. I dont care if you have never liked or heard of TOS before or not, I think it is so good that you can not overlook this band any longer nor complain that this band is run completely on hatred. Though you have a few months to wait for professionally produced music to come I strongly enforce that this band be checked out by anyone that has ever even fathomed the notion of being metal."
A review by a crazy fan:
"OH my fucking God. How else to describe TOS? music that brutalizes and comforts at the same time? Torment Of Sin is one intense band, creating a deep and frenzied soundtrack suitable for the nightmarish visions of, say, Charles Manson on PCP. But at the same time, often in the same song, the band (Ricky Lewis, vocals; Doug Callahan, bass; Jarrod Watson, Lead Guitar; Allen Phillips, Guitar; and Jesse Holden on drums) manage to create beauty; dark, bloodstained beauty. They smile fiendishly and lapse into melody after they've crushed your face with a death-metal baseball bat. You'll find lots of metal here: thrash, black, death, industrial, there's even hints of hair metal in a few select songs. Somehow, Lewis and the boys even make THAT work."
An Avenged Sevenfold Fan said:"Ricky(Vocals) & Jarrod(Lead Guitar & Backup Vocals) are the next M.Shadows(Vocals) & Synyster Gates(Guitar & Backup Vocals), only so much more fuckin METAL."If Slayer is the house band that plays at the gates of Hell, then TOS is the soundtrack for the chaotic descent into the pit. The next time you have to do something like gut a goat, retrieve a dead stinking possum from your darkened crawlspace, or eat McDonald's food, put this disc in. You'll get all the adrenaline you need to psyche yourself into a frenzy and get the job done. You might even enjoy it.
