WHO IS K.I.K?
Brandy Gilliam a/k/a K.I.K. has been a staple in the A-illa (Aurora, IL) Hip Hop Community for years. He has helped to organize and unify the underground scene in A-illa by releasing a double cd compilation called “A-illa Angle: Last Dayz of Hip Hop”, which features underground Hip Hop talent primarily from Aurora, IL. This cd boasts over 40 underground artists and is the 1st double disc Hip Hop compilation of its kind to come out of Aurora, IL.
WHAT ARE HIS CREDENTIALS?
K.I.K. is a founding member of P.O.B.U.M.S. SOCIETY and Da Sonz of K.A.O.Z... He is also a member of a spoken word poetry ensemble called the V.E.N.T. MOVEMENT... K.I.K. started off as a battle rapper and gradually made his way into the studio to start recording songs and making demos. He has a tremendous work habit and is extremely organized when it comes to studio time and getting the proper results for a finalized project. He has consoled numerous up and coming Hip Hop crews to the inside business and politics of the “Rap Game”. He has also helped many crews with bios, copyrights, and certain books that they should check out to gain a little more experience about the rap game. K.I.K. is highly respected in the Aurora Hip Hop Community as a leader, a person with high moral standards, integrity, and an honest approach to trying to keep the underground scene of A-illa Hip Hop alive moving.
K.I.K. has released 6 Hip Hop projects thus far and he is set to release his 1st solo LP, actually he is currently working on 2 solo LP’s.
Next is the highly anticipated
Chronicles of Brandy Gilliam (a/k/a Pete Garrison) which is slated to be this summer. All production on the LP is done by producers from A-illa (Aurora, IL).
K.I.K. proclaims, “I don't expect everyone to like this LP but I know everyone will respect it and the direction that I'm taken it in. I try to hit my listeners with conscious socio-political views on the community, world events, prophecy, religion, and just everyday living. Also I’m a battle emcee by nature so of course I spit that Hot Butter Gutter at any & all bullshit emcees! So enough of this Mindless Music that has put the masses to sleep!”
INFLUENCES
K.I.K. converted to Islam in 1993 and started studying the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad as taught by Min. Farrakhan. He has also studied the teachings of Noble Drew Ali, Nation of Gods & Earths (5% Nation), Dr. Malachi Z. York, and many other schools of thought. These writings have had a great impact on K.I.K.’s life, mentality, and his lyrics.
K.I.K.'s musical taste has a wide range of influences from the Black Crows, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jewel, Muddy Waters, Sam Cook, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Howling Wolf, EPMD, KRS ONE, Gangstarr, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Showbiz & Ag, 3rd Bass, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Heather B, House Of Pain, Cypress Hill, Lighter Shade Of Brown, Kid Frost, Funkdoobiest, M.O.P., AZ, Jay Z, Ras Kas, Wu Tang Clan, X Clan, Public Enemy, Scar Face, Fat Boyz, Brand Nubian, KMD, Bronze Nazareth and many more.
On the underground scene some of his musical influences are P.O.B.U.M.S. SOCIETY, TBA, NAZIR, PEACHTREE, U & I (Khaaliq Production), SISTER HAERO, SHAYLA DAY, NON PHIXION, JEDI MIND TRICKS, THIRD KIND, ATMOSPHERE, BROTHER ALI, CAGE, One Be Lo, and countless others.
