Yahya “The Deadbeat Poet†the organizer of the V.E.N.T movement has been producing poetry shows for the last 5 years. A spoken word artist who has made the transition from writing raps to prolifically addressing the masses with rhythmic tales of life, politics and spirituality.
Every since Yahya has been on the scene he has been very instrumental in the promotion and production of Poetry and Spokenword events. Such as Urban Renaissance a ministry funded event held every third Friday of the month, with featured poets from and around the Chicago area; Aurora’s first and only Spokenword/Hip-Hop/R&B/Poetry open mic entitled Poetic Slang; Wurdkraft a poetry/spokenword workshop designed to increase writing, comprehension vocal, and performance skills of young artist, mainly middle and high school children; Poetry and Jazz Combinations with Ray the Silkman a jazz saxophonist at the Hot House and various other venues; Comedy shows with Prestige Entertainment; Poetry Expo in St. Louis, Mo.; The Passage Through Poetry and A Talk with Wurdz both shows held at North Central College in Naperville, IL..
He has performed with Chicago’s top flight Poets such as Danny Divine, Enigma Poets, Ben Ammi, Triple Blak, Miss Kimm, O.D., Deana Dean, Khari B., Malik Yusef, Miraaj and Heteru, Brenda “Mama†Mathews, Three Brothers and a Mic, April Preyar, Dewolfe, Red Strom and an entourage of others. Through his networking capabilities and his affiliations on and off the poetry scene his reputation as a Poet and organizer has grown and has become a known and reliable source into the world of Poetry.
