The Populist Party
About the Populist Party
The Populist Party of America is a political party that seeks solutions to our problems through the establishment of a Constitutional Democracy and strict adherence to the Bill of Rights . Your liberty is our goal; governmental form is simply the method to achieving it.
"We have it in our power to begin the world over again."
- Thomas Paine
The Populist Party promotes, and strives for, Common Sense solutions; Localized Democracy as a tool to reign in the power of the federal government and ensure a greater responsibility of all public servants to the People.
Populism, as espoused by the Populist Party, is a federal system of government where the final check and balance on the power of the politicians is directly in the hands of the people; with the Constitution and Bill of Rights serving as legal boundaries to protect the rights and liberties of all citizens.
"The People...are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty"
- Thomas Jefferson
Brief Overview
-
Liberty - Your liberty is our goal, and protecting it is the reason for government
Bill of Rights - We demand strict adherence to the Bill of Rights.
Decentralization of Power - To ensure liberty, peace and prosperity, governing power must be in the hands of the people, locally, instead of being concentrated in the few hands that control society today.
Democratic Process - The people must have the final say in governing themselves, not the imperial executive, the under-represented House of Representatives, or the Aristocracy of the Senate. We support nationwide double-majorities to enact Constitutionally-approved federal laws, citizen-initiated legislation and the recall of public servants in the employ of the people. We support local democratic processes to deal with everything else not authorized to the federal government by the Constitution.
Non-Aggression - We oppose the use of force to solve problems; both domestically and abroad.
Return to Constitutional Governance - The federal government must be limited in its scope and activity. The Constitution is the law which governs the government, and the 10th Amendment states that all powers not specifically given to the federal government by the Constitution are "Reserved to the States, respectively, or to the People." The Constitution is the groundwork for our federal government, and all changes to it must be made by Amendment, not by Judicial or Legislative fiat, or by the use of Executive Orders. Allowing politicians to "bend the rules" for decades - ostensibly for good reasons - has the inevitable result of producing politicians that feel the laws don't apply at all.
Anti-Militarism - We call on the U.S. government to end its foreign policy of aggression, force, intervention and war.
Transparency in Government - We support ending secrecy in government funding, and allowing the people to know what their money is being spent on. A primary focus of this goal is to end the "black" budgets of the Pentagon and the CIA's Directorate of Operations.
Read The Bills Act (RTBA) - Created by DownsizeDC.org , RTBA requires, among other things, that 1) Every bill be read in its entirety before Congress can vote on it. 2) Every bill to be voted on must be published online for at least 7 days before a vote is taken. 3) Every member of Congress must sign a sworn affidavit, under penalty of perjury, that they have read, or heard read, the full bill to be voted on. We support the passage of this bill as legislation, or if necessary, as a Constitutional Amendment.
Click Here to Learn More . Accountability - We support a Constitutional Amendment which will create sanctions and/or criminal liability on politicians who violate the Constitution while in office.
