.. BIOShiah Coore, firstborn to internationally-acclaimed musician Cat Coore (“Third Worldâ€) and artisan Donna Feltis-Coore (Ital Craft), was born in Kingston Jamaica, 1979. As one of a handful of children belonging to the island’s reggae-elite, Shiah was raised in the music industry. He showed interest in performing and exhibited natural talent early in life. By 5 years of age he held living room ‘shows’ to the delight of family & friends. Mother Donna encouraged her son’s aspirations, and later followed through on a vision she had for him: that of a professional band, with skilled young musicians backing Shiah and his childhood friend Damian (Jr. Gong) Marley – youngest son of icon Bob Marley.Lloyd Parks’ son, Noel Parks, and Yeshemabeth McGregor, daughter of Judy Mowatt and Freddie McGregor, were among the musicians recruited via a newspaper ad - and The Shepherds were formed! With its ‘second-generation’ members still in high school, the Shepherds achieved national success, playing such venues as Jamaica Carnival, White River Reggae Bash and Reggae Sunsplash ’92. Before establishing individual careers, the junior Jamaican group even completed a small Canadian tour.In the mid 90’s Shiah met Jason (Trelle) Chantrelle, with whom he shared a passion for music - and the duo became instant friends. They soon established a small studio in Shiah's house, featuring a Tascam 4-track, Casio keyboard, a faithful Atari Cubase sequencer and the Fender bass guitar which ultimately became Shiah’s principal instrument. While both Shiah and Trelle (who’s collaborated with the likes of Elephant Man, Jr. Gong and Sizzla) have come a long way from their humble beginnings, their ties remain close. After graduation in ’96, Shiah attended the Jamaica School of Music, under the influence of friend and mentor Daniel (Blaxxx) Lewis - who has also gone on to become a reputable producer in Jamaica and beyond. It was at the Jamaica School of Music that Shiah learned of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He submitted an audition tape featuring his best scales and patterns, and in the fall of ’99 entered on full scholarship, the school which hand-picks only the best applicants from around the world. Here Shiah furthered his bass studies and began to explore music production and engineering. By the time he returned to the island in 2001, he specialized in creating solid dancehall beats.Shiah’s skills have been in constant demand since his return to Jamaica. He created his first smash-hit rhythm ‘Mad Ants’ in 2002, upon which songs like ‘Nuh Hail Mi’ and ‘New Millennium’ were built. Together with yet another talented Kingston native, Brandon Cooks, Shiah operates YardCoore Productions encompassing Music Production, Film Scoring, Dancehall Rhythms and artist singles. A prolific producer, Shiah contributed to Renaissance Crew’s ‘Rebirth Riddim’; Sizzla’s ‘Rise to the Occasion’; as well as tracks for still more of reggae’s hottest artists including Assassin; Elephant Man; Papa san; Bounty Killa; and Jr. Gong.Last but certainly not least, Shiah still enjoys performing with his oldest friend, playing bass for Damian Jr. Gong Marley in the band EMPIRE. Stay tuned for updates on Shiah’s continued success, as by all indications, we have only witnessed a sample of this creative musician’s genius.
