BACKGROUND HISTORY: The band was formed by guitarist Brad (Nakedboy) Jones and vocalist Terry Anderson in 1998 after dissolving their band of 7 years Judge Mental.
LOKEY started as a four piece band with Daniel Urias on drums - Jason "Boo" E on bass - Terry and Brad. This line up released the first LOKEY CD "Seven weeks in a day" in 1999 after recording with engineer Wade Parker at I.T.G Studios.
Jason fell on personal hardships and wasn't able to continue his duties as bass player. He was immediately replaced by San Antonio madman Ian Train, who had been performing for years in Billy Mack. With the addition of a second guitarist named Josh Murray (the band now being a five piece) started writing music for their sophmore release "From the Inside" which was also recorded at I.T.G and released in 2001.
Around this time drummer Daniel Urias was needing something more than just music to shape his future with and decided to make his move. After giving it his best shot for nearly two years Daniel proudly joined the US Navy and went to defend our country. He was and is sorely missed by the LOKEY family. We wish him health and happiness.
Ian Train had decided to return to his obligations with Billy Mack and LOKEY became hard pressed to find suitable replacements for them both. The remaining members were fortunate enough to run into longtime friends, former Pitbull Daycare drummer Efrin Galacia and Chapstick guitarist Andy Escalante. Efrin took over the drum duties while Andy jumped on bass and the band started writing for their 3rd studio release "A Black Thing".
The music was near completion when bass player Andy E decided to leave for his own reasons and LOKEY began scrambling to keep their studio dates. At this time Billy Mack fully disbanded and Ian was able to come back to the line up and LOKEY hit the studio with a vengenance in 2002.
The recording was completed when suddenly the studio decided not to keep certain obligations and scratched the recording, but not before Terry had snagged an "unmixed" copy of a few tunes which to this day have never been heard by fans or past band members. A mixed version of these songs may be released in the future... ;)
After the disappointing studio fiasco some members became distant and LOKEY eventually lost Efrin and Josh. At this point the group started to announce its disbanding seeing no way to keep the intensity alive with members they didn't know well or would be comfortable performing with.
Luckily they were saved once again when guitarist Kevin Phillips and drummer Jon Frugia (both formerly of legendary SATX bands Blood Engine and Stompanato) became available and joined the ranks of the troubled band. Now the band was stronger than ever before and the five musical warriors started recording the fourth LOKEY CD "Beautality" with engineer Keith Krouse at the incredible Monster Music Studios.
The 2004 release was an instant success and catapulted LOKEY to the top of the South Texas music scene within months. LOKEY started touring their region relentlessly and performing festivals, independent live contests and national concerts everywhere.
The band performed with Slayer, Mastadon and Killswitch Engage in December 2004 on the Jagermeister Tour and was souring high when the evil Gods of Metal decided LOKEY was having it to good to quick and tragedy struck them from within. Inner turmoil started between members over dedication and personal finances... and the band once again lost two of their key players, Ian and Kevin.
Terry, Brad had seen their dream realized and crushed so many times that they were literally at a loss. It seemed the end had come for the beast they had struggled so long to create and nothing could bring this dead dog back to life. But like a dark winged angel from Heavy Metal heaven, legendary San Antonio bass player Jimmy Bell just "happened" to stop by the LOKEY practice room the VERY DAY that Kevin and Ian quit.
With Jimmys addition and the decision to stay a four piece the band started writing together with a whole new outlook and sound in mind. They would go back to the roots of what THEY liked and listened to when they first became music lovers. A stronger more basic sound that was pounding and took no prisoners. With the convincing persistance and dedication to music of drummer Jon Frugia they continued to stay together and keep the name they had worked so hard to build over the years.
Now featuring what they call their "final line-up" the band consists of Terry Anderson - Brad Jones - Jon Frugia and JimmyBell. In early 2008 LOKEY releases their 5th full length CD "Reconstruction" which they have completed at Monster Music studios. This new CD is a testament to their ability to fight, fail and overcome in this industry. They are commited to giving the fans 100% on and off stage as long as the name LOKEY remains on their tongues.
NOTE: The final line-up has completed their rounds.... goodnight. (Terry A August 20th 2008.)
(F.Y.I : The name LOKEY was concieved one night at a party and came from virtually nowhere with no real meaning what-so-ever. We were NOT named after LOKI the Prince of Mischeif and we're not Low Key hahaha. So there.)
