.more.than.yesterday.
Icons such as Pink Floyd and U2 have influenced musicians for years. These bands have served not only as a guide for musical styling, but also to teach listeners how to open up their eyes and ears to what is going on in the world around them. The members of More Than Yesterday have been listening.
For almost a decade now the tight-knit group made up of four best friends has been soaking in life, love, tragedy, and hate, trying to find their voice. With the writing of their latest album their voice was found, and with the 2005 release of "Graced By Silence" their voice will be heard.
"Graced By Silence" is the culmination of the struggle between finding the sound they have been striving for and the message it must convey. The result ended up defining what More Than Yesterday is: constantly changing, always in flux. The music ranges from string quartets to driving anthems to soaring epic choruses.
More Than Yesterday's lyrical attributes draw from examples set by the aforementioned bands and also more recent bands like Dredg and Blue October. The lyrics take on an ambiguity that allows any listener to relate which is pivotal for the group since the fans are the heart and soul of the band. The members of MTY are forever indebted to their fans and the main way they try to give back is through their live show.
"It's great to be able to get your music into people's hands, but it's gratifying to be able to hand them an experience." says singer Russ Kempton. At the first note of the live show the stage explodes with energy and sonic ability. Kempton's vocals pierce and soar connecting emotion to the songs with a seasoned effort that feels like he sings to each and every person in the crowd. Flanking him are bassist Dan Mcmahan, and brother, guitarist Blake Kempton. Each brings precision and the sound of an army of instruments together with a stage presence of ferocious intensity adding in perfect vocal harmonies by the brothers Kempton. The backbone of the group, drummer Jeremy Lohrman's playing is larger than life. He charges through songs with pinpoint accuracy commanding attention and respect from everyone in the audience.
Fans today are grasping for something. They want to feel something, believe in something. More Than Yesterday is hoping to give a piece of that something to them.
