Reviews for 'Motion Commotion {Self Titled} EP
ABSOLUTEPUNK.NET 11/1 here
For those who can appreciate the finer points, this release will bring out more reactions than the band’s name implies. Basing the concept of the record more on how each song flows, violins, tape loops, accordions, keys, and sporadic clarinet sighs coalesce with the a-typical rock accoutrement, creating a familiar but fresh sound.
TRANSFORM ONLINE (national online) 9/29 .. here
"Enter new band Motion Commotion. Comprised of four members, three of whom are graduates of some of the best music conservatories in the nation, all of whom studied under musicians in the top of their fields, including two Grammy winners. Impressive doesn’t begin to describe their resumes. James Wolff’s high-pitched violin is in fact a mainstay of the album, most notably on the instrumental “Motion”. No other song this year will leave you as utterly taken aback as this three minute classical piece. No question Motion Commotion have talent. Perfect production. Instruments are played well and mesh well together. The band even go where many other bands aren’t going today.
ANTI MUSIC DOT COM (national online) 9/29 .. ran a blurb: here
"the quartet's expansive knowledge of traditional theories and methodologies add an unsurpassed level of sophistication to their take on indie-rock compositions. With the addition of electronic backdrops, strings and reeds, tape splicing, counterpoint theory and a multimedia live experience, Motion Commotion's pop inclinations reach out to those with refined tastes and/or appreciation for high tradition within the context of contemporary accessible rock."
SILENT UPROAR (national online) 9/12 .. David is running a review. here
"Disparate tastes and educational backgrounds in music are the key factors in Motion Commotion's rise, and while they've not yet conquered the music industry, the tools are in their pockets. Niche-less and eclectic is the way to be, and these guys have nailed it."
